Daichi Oozora[7][8] is the main protagonist of Ultraman X. He is the human host of Ultraman X and a member of Xio.
Conception[]
Etymology[]
- Oozora : Means "great sky"
- Daichi : Means "earth" or "great ground"
By combining these, it means that Daichi's full name represented him as the Planet Earth.
History[]
Pre-Ultraman X[]
As a child, Daichi's father and mother were lost in a mysterious event connected to the Ultra Flare. His father had ran into a building to find his mother, but the building and everything in it disappeared. Daichi was left with the Gomora Doll his father was studying and had a vision of a battle near the sun, between two spheres. He saw the defeated sphere thrown into the sun and the victorious opened by the solar flare, revealing a giant of light.
Ultraman X[]
Fifteen years later, Daichi has become a scientist. In his search for his missing parents, he is recruited by Xio and joins their research team, beginning to study Cyber Kaiju. Although Xio’s main priority is to eliminate the threat posed by the monsters, Daichi hopes for peaceful coexistence with them, preferring to live in harmony rather than destroy them.
For the Cyber Gomora project, Daichi contributes his own Gomora. At the beginning of the series, Daichi is conducting an experiment to analyze the Spark Doll and materialize it into a Cyber Kaiju form. He inserts the Cyber Gomora card into Xio’s multifunctional device, the Xio Devizer, and begins the experiment. However, the experiment ultimately fails when the electronic particles cannot stabilize, and progress halts at 67%.
At this moment, a mysterious heat source signal is detected from underground. Xio immediately sends a team to investigate, with Asuna Yamase meeting up with Daichi. However, Asuka is attacked by a mysterious fireball, which turns out to be the true form of the heat source—a Demaaga. Demaaga then begins advancing toward the city. Daichi is tasked with analyzing Demaaga and instructs Asuna, Wataru Kazama, and Hayato Kijima to target its weak points for an attack, but their efforts prove ineffective.
As Demaaga destroyed the city with its heat beam, Daichi found himself in the chaos, realizing that he had lost the Gomora Doll he had carried with him since childhood. He immediately detached from Asuna and rushed to search for the Spark Doll among the debris. At that moment, Demaaga was closing in. In the midst of the crisis, Daichi heard a voice from the Geo Device saying, "Fusion… Fusion…" Demaga fired a fireball at Daichi, but just then, a beam of light appeared, protecting him. This light then entered the Xio Devizer, evolving it into the X Devizer. Daichi opened his eyes to find himself in a mysterious space. A mysterious voice then spoke to him: "Go, Daichi!" Looking down, he was astonished to see that he had fused with a giant, facing Demaaga head-on.
Faced with Demaaga's attack, Daichi, overwhelmed with fear, was unable to make a move. However, when he saw Demaga attacking Asuna, he instinctively defended and summoned the courage to fight back. Despite the urgent situation, Captain Shotaro Kamiki ordered support for the giant. With the help of his teammates, Daichi successfully overcame the crisis and unleashed the finishing move "Xanadium Beam," which successfully reverted Demaaga back into the Spark Doll.
Afterward, Daichi named the giant "Ultraman X." At that moment, X digitized and stored its data into the X Devizer, explaining to Daichi that it had been drawn to him by his inherent frequency and that they were destined to fight together to protect Earth’s peace. Meanwhile, Xio adopted the suggestion of sending Cyber Card to X, allowing X to transform into a kaiju armor for battle with the help of Xio. A Voice From the Starry Sky
During the Bemstar incident, Daichi was attacked by Bemstar while attempting to analyze it. Despite this, he grabbed the X Devizer and transformed into X to fight Daichi. In order to protect Asuna, X allowed himself to be swallowed by Behemos-Tan.
When Daichi regained consciousness, he found himself inside Bemstar's body, alongside X. As they consumed energy, X protected Daichi. Realizing this, Daichi advised X not to waste energy on him, but X replied that Daichi’s help was necessary to restore peace to the universe. X explained to Daichi the cause of the monster appearances and mutations—the "Ultra Flare" phenomenon. Daichi also deepened his understanding of the close connection between himself and X.
At this moment, Xio’s "Space Musketty," which had been tracking Bemstar, arrived at the scene and used the Cyber Telesdon’s Cyber Card to fire a lava beam, successfully rescuing X. In the end, X reverted Bemstar back into the Spark Doll, resolving the issue. All for One
Soon after, Daichi consulted Dr. Gourman Gourman about dimensional issues, while Xio began experiments to transform kaiju back into Spark Dolls. During the transport of the experimental materials, Xio was attacked by Black King. Daichi transformed into X to confront Black King. At that time, the Alien Nackle Bandello controlling Black King stole the Spark Doll used for the experiment and teamed up with Black King to attack X. In a critical moment, a warrior from another dimension, "Ultraman Zero," appeared. To escape Zero’s pursuit, Bandello fled into a distant dimension with the Spark Doll, accidentally trapping Rui Takada in that dimension as well.
Daichi then set out to investigate the area where Rui’s signals were coming from, but was unable to cross the dimension and fell into a dilemma. Just then, Zero invited him to the Stratosphere Zone, where Daichi asked Zero to take him along to rescue Rui, but Zero refused. Meanwhile, in the Xio laboratory, Dr. Gourman developed the Ultimate Zero’s Cyber Card—the Ultimate Aegis. With this card, Daichi gained the power of the "Ultraman Zero Armor" and successfully crossed dimensions. After teaming up with Zero to battle the Bandello and Black King Drill Custom, X successfully brought Rui back to Earth. When the Aegis Shines
One day, Zetton appeared on the streets, and X had a fierce battle with Zetton, eventually being pushed into a corner. However, Zetton suddenly turned his back on X and disappeared using teleportation. To combat Zetton, Daichi decided to create Zetton Armor, but progress was slow due to the lack of data on Zetton. At this time, Dr. Kaito, a Spark Doll researcher, arrived at Operation Base X to assist Xio with their research. It was revealed that Dr. Kaito possessed Zetton’s Spark Doll and had seemingly once conducted research with Daichi’s father.
Daichi resumed the development of Zetton Armor. Based on his experience fighting Zetton, he decided to prioritize enhancing the armor’s power. However, Mamoru and Rui believed that Zetton’s power was already sufficient, and further increasing the armor’s strength could be dangerous. Dr. Kaito, however, expressed confidence in Daichi’s programming abilities and supported the team in following Daichi’s approach. Eventually, the Zetton Cyber Card was successfully completed.
Yet, Zetton reappeared in the city. Daichi transformed into Ultraman X and began battling Zetton. Dr. Kaito and the Xio members handed the Zetton Cyber Card to X, successfully equipping him with Zetton Armor. However, X suddenly lost his ability to move freely, as the Zetton armor had locked his movements. At that moment, a gunshot broke the stalemate. The shooter was Kaito Touma, who bore a striking resemblance to Dr. Kaito. In fact, Dr. Kaito had been disguised by Alien Sran Quila, and the Zetton Armor had been a trap designed to ensnare X. Zetton intensified its destruction, and Kaito transformed into Ultraman Max, saving trapped civilians and assisting X.
Daichi eventually succeeded in disabling the preset program within the Zetton Card, restoring X’s ability to move. Then, X and Ultraman Max teamed up to defeat Quila. Afterwards, Daichi had a chance to meet Kaito. Max appeared in his human form, the form he had when they fought side by side in the past, and after handing Daichi a Cyber Card with his own image, he left the universe where X resides. X in Peril
One day, Demaaga suddenly appeared in the city. Daichi transformed into Ultraman X to confront Demaaga. However, a mysterious cosmic energy descended, and Demaaga, bathed in its power, mutated into Tsurugi Demaaga. Meanwhile, X was also affected by this energy, causing his body to begin disintegrating, significantly weakening his combat ability. In order to protect Daichi, X chose to terminate the fusion. Although Tsurugi Demaaga retreated underground, X disappeared as a result. While Daichi’s body remained unharmed, he lost consciousness and dreamt of his parents' words from his childhood: "At the end of the rainbow lies happiness and something important." Upon waking, Daichi requested Dr. Gourman's assistance to allow his consciousness to enter cyberspace through the X Devizer in search of X’s data.
In cyberspace, while searching for X’s data, a rainbow appeared. Remembering his mother’s advice from the dream, Daichi reached out and touched the base of the rainbow, receiving the rainbow-colored sword— Xlugger. Immediately, X's data was restored to the X Devizer. Back in the real world, Daichi reunited with the revived X and, with the power of Xlugger, successfully transformed into Exceed X.
Exceed X then unleashed his finishing move, Exceed X Slash, destroying the enhancement energy attached to Tsurugi Demaaga, reverting it to its original form, Demaaga. X then switched back to his normal form and used the Xanadium Beam to turn Demaaga back into a Spark Doll. End of the Rainbow
Soon after, Mold Spectre from another world arrived in the universe where X resided. Upon learning that this world also had an Ultraman, he decided to defeat him and conquer the world. At the same time, UPG's Arisa Sugita was accidentally drawn into the X universe. Arisa met Xio, who was investigating the abnormal situation, and explained the situation. She asked for Xio’s help in searching for Sho, who had been captured by Mold, and revealed that Sho was the Ultraman from her world: Ultraman Victory in his human form. Meanwhile, Sho managed to escape during a moment when Mold and Gina Spectre were absent. He encountered Daichi, but due to the restraining device, he was unable to speak.
Mold and his allies absorbed the energy of Dark Thunder, attempting to accumulate power. Daichi transformed into Ultraman X in front of Sho and further powered up, becoming X, to challenge Mold, resulting in a fierce battle. Arisa and Sho arrived to support. Sho took the Victory Lancer, which Arisa had recovered, to attack and successfully rescue X. Later, Xio used their technology to successfully remove the alien-made restraining device from Sho. After Sho explained the situation to Xio, he led Daichi away. He told Daichi that he had already heard about him from Zero. Since Daichi had not yet fully mastered the power of the Xlugger, and because X's power corresponded to Daichi's own, Sho decided to begin strict training to guide Daichi.
After the training, Daichi and Sho transformed into X and Victory, respectively, and began to counterattack Mold Spectre, who had opened a dimensional rift. Daichi’s progress during training became evident as he unleashed a powerful strike against Mold Spectre. Mold Spectre's army was then eliminated by the arriving Hikaru Raido / Ultraman Ginga. Sword of Victory
After a fierce battle with the three Ultramen, Mold tried to materialize the Spark Dolls from Xio’s research facility, but ultimately failed. To assist Mold, Gina sacrificed her soul to merge with him. Combined with the energy of Juda Spectre, who had been defeated by Victory, a new entity, Gua Spectre, was born.
Daichi, Sho, and Hikaru transformed into Ultras and engaged in battle. Ultimately, X was enhanced to Exceed X and, alongside Ginga and Victory, launched a continuous series of attacks, successfully defeating Gua Spectre. Afterward, Daichi bid farewell to Hikaru, Sho, and Arisa, seeing them off as they returned to their respective universes. The Shining Sky, and the Land Beneath It
After collecting data on Gomora, the experiment with Cyber Gomora was successfully completed, and Xio agreed to proceed with testing the materialization of Gomora from the Spark Dolls. To counter the dark thunder energy that could trigger a monster rampage, Xio activated a protective shield and set a three-minute time limit for the test. The test was successful, and Gomora was successfully materialized, responding to Daichi's commands and communicating effectively. Daichi was pleased, but just as the time limit ended, the powerful dark thunder energy broke through the shield and attacked Gomora. Gomora transformed into EX Gomora and began rampaging.
Daichi transformed into Ultraman X and attempted to revert EX Gomora back into the Spark Dolls. However, a voice suddenly called out, "Is this what you call coexistence?" Then, X disappeared, being teleported into a laboratory-like flask. At that moment, M1 appeared and told Daichi that he was an artificial life created by science and abandoned. Watching EX Gomora continue its rampage, Xio reluctantly decided to destroy it. Daichi broke down in tears, pleading for EX Gomora to regain its sanity. Meanwhile, the injured Asuna persisted in trying to persuade the creature to stop its rampage.
Just then, М1 snapped his fingers, and X returned to Earth, using the X Protective Wall to block EX Gomora's attack. Then, X transformed into Exceed X and successfully used the Exceed X Slash to restore EX Gomora back to its Gomora form. X then attempted to use the Xanadium Beam to revert Gomora back into the Spark Dolls. However, Gomora's body suddenly began to glow. It was not absorbed by the beam; instead, it spontaneously transformed back into the Spark Dolls. Living Together
Upon learning that vice-captain Sayuri Tachibana had transformed into another "Ultraman," Tachibana struggled with the painful dilemma of choosing to protect her daughter over following orders. When Daichi asked Tachibana, "What did it feel like when you transformed into Ultraman?" Tachibana responded, "I was certain that there were things I was meant to do, things I could do." She recalled her feelings when she transformed into Ultraman and shared her thoughts.
Ultraman X Daichi explained that it was his decision that had pushed Daichi into the battle, and he felt guilty for making Daichi endure so much pain. Daichi, however, expressed that it was thanks to X that he was able to face his dreams.
As she separated from "Ultraman," Tachibana entrusted Daichi with the message "Don't give up" that Ultraman had conveyed. At the same time, Daichi’s computer analyzed the cosmic radio waves and played the result. The voice that came through was none other than the voice of Daichi's mother, who had disappeared 15 years ago. Bond -Unite-
After hearing the voice of his missing mother, Daichi went to the place where his mother had once conducted her research to investigate potential space-time anomalies. After three days of continuous, tireless investigation, Asuna, concerned for Daichi's health, reminded him to take a proper rest. Meanwhile, Xio received a report from UNVER's Geneva headquarters stating that dark thunder energy, which made monsters more violent, had been detected around Mercury 18 days ago and around Venus three days ago. Captain Kamiki speculated that this energy was heading toward Earth.
Dr. Gourman re-examined the communication footage from Wataru and Mamoru, who were patrolling near the Moon, and discovered that the source of the dark thunder energy was a mysterious object with zero spatial energy. This object was, in fact, the result of a human brain forcibly visualizing it. Essentially, it was "nothing"—it had no physical form. After flying toward UNVER’s Nevada branch, the glowing object unexpectedly transformed into a humanoid figure.
Upon learning this, Daichi and Asuna rushed to the base. Inside the vehicle, X suddenly spoke up, saying, "I will speak directly with everyone at Xio." He then made contact with them through the team members' Xio Devizer. The true identity of the glowing entity was revealed to be "Greeza," a being that absorbs the energy of planetary lifeforms and turns everything into nothingness. The solar flare phenomenon 15 years ago had also been triggered by Greeza. Greeza’s next target was Operation Base X, which housed a large number of Spark Dolls. To combat this, X requested cooperation from Xio.
When Greeza successfully landed in Japan, Daichi, urged by X, decided to reveal his identity. He transformed into X in front of Asuna, attempting to stop Greeza. However, since Greiza had no physical form, their attacks were completely ineffective. Daichi and X decided to take a desperate gamble, planning to be absorbed by Greeza in order to launch an internal attack. Despite a massive explosion, all that eventually flew out from Greeza’s body was X’s color timer. A Beautiful End
As Asuna approached and touched the X color timer, she heard Daichi's heartbeat, firmly believing that both Daichi and X were still alive. At the same time, Daichi, whose consciousness was in cyberspace, saw an image from 15 years ago. He witnessed his parents discovering the ancient artifact, the Xlugger, and disappearing with the Ultra Flare in that moment. Dr. Gourman then suggested sending someone into X's cyberspace for rescue. Asuna decided to volunteer for this mission. However, things took a turn for the worse as Greeza was resurrected and began to take action. Xio's team members tried to stop Greeza, but all their attacks were absorbed by it.
In X's cyberspace, Asuna desperately spoke to Daichi. Thanks to X’s presence, Daichi was able to continue believing in the dream of "coexisting with monsters," and Daichi's persistence made Asuna start believing in that dream as well. In the end, Daichi heard Asuna’s voice and finally woke up from his unconscious state. As Daichi shouted, "Once again, unite with me!" and felt the deep resonance of his memories and emotions with X, X was revived.
X transformed into Exceed X and began attacking Greeza. Xio's team also provided support. When Greeza used Gomora’s ultrasonic waves, Daichi discovered that Gomora had been absorbed into Greeza's body. Daichi spoke to Gomora, who had grown up with him and was now a Spark Doll, and successfully destroyed Greeza’s core in its chest.
As the Spark Dolls of the monsters within Greeza were freed, they merged with X. X fused with these monsters and donned the Hybrid Armor. X reflected Greeza’s attacks and defeated it with the Ultimate Xanadium. Finally, with the power of the Hybrid Armor and the cooperation of the monsters, X successfully defeated Greeza. After working together with the monsters to defeat Greeza, Daichi had a brief reunion with his parents in cyberspace, before returning to the real world and reuniting with his Xio teammates.
In the end, he, along with X and the members of Xio, began the reconstruction of the base. This marked an important step for Daichi, as he moved forward into the future of human-monster coexistence. The Rainbow Land
Ultraman X The Movie: Here He Comes! Our Ultraman[]
One year later, upon receiving reports of abnormal electromagnetic waves emanating from the ancient "Baradhi Ruins" discovered in Akiba Prefecture, Daichi and Asuna set out to investigate. On their way, they encountered Professor Tsukasa Tamaki and his son, Yuuto, and found that the greedy treasure hunter, Carlos Kurosaki, had illegally detonated the entrance to the Baroth ruins and entered the site. Inside, they discovered a statue of Ultraman Tiga and a blue stone. However, Kurosaki, eager for fame, insisted on taking the blue stone, which led to a confrontation with Tamaki. This altercation ultimately resulted in the release of the demon beast Zaigorg, which had been sealed away since ancient times.
Daichi transformed into Ultraman X to fight Zaigorg but was easily defeated, forcing Zaigorg to temporarily retreat. Back at the Xio base, Daichi attempted to repair the X Devizer and eventually managed to restore X's consciousness using an electric shock method. However, due to the corruption by Zaigorg's power, Daichi was unable to transform.
At this time, Zaigorg was heading towards the Kurosaki Building where the blue stone was located. Captain Kamiki dispatched Asuna and Professor Tamaki to retrieve the blue stone, while Daichi and the remaining Xio members used all their powerful technologies to try to stop Zaigorg but failed. Meanwhile, Asuna, Tamaki, and Kurosaki engaged in a fierce struggle for the blue stone. The building they were in was damaged by Zaigorg, putting them in grave danger.
In the Xio laboratory, Yuto's Sparklence and the blue stone began to emit synchronized light, resonating with the X Devizer. Rui Takada brought X Devizer to Daichi's side, and Daichi and Yuto entered the building to rescue Tamaki, who was trapped under steel beams, with Asuna. Using the restored X Devizer, Daichi transformed into Ultraman X again. Yuto transformed into Ultraman Tiga, and along with the Ultraman from the blue stone, they faced off against Zaigorg.
Tiga and Ultraman first defeated Gorg Antlar and Gorg Golza, but Zaigorg extended two whips to absorb the energy of the two Ultramen and summoned five Tsurugi Demaaga worldwide. At a critical moment, the hope of the people generated Cyber Cards for Tiga and the original Ultraman. X used these powers to form a new form—the Beta Spark Armor. With this new form, he cut off Zaigorg's whips, freeing Tiga and the original Ultraman. The two Ultramen then infused their powers into the Beta Spark Armor, ultimately defeating Zaigorg completely.
After the crisis ended, X and Tiga separated Daichi and Yuto, and the original Ultraman flew back into space. X regained his physical form through the light of people's hopes and, after bidding farewell to the Xio team, left Earth. In the conclusion, X returned to Daichi's side to continue fighting alongside him to face Desastro.Ultraman X The Movie: Here He Comes! Our Ultraman
Ultraman Orb The Movie: Let Me Borrow the Power of Bonds![]
Daichi and the Xio members went to space to confront Desastro but fell into a trap near the moon, forcing him to separate from X. Daichi arrived on the Earth where Ultraman Orb was active and was imprisoned by the space witch thief Murnau. With Jugglus Juggler's help, he was rescued by SSP and rejoined with Ultraman X to fight together once more.
During the battle, Daichi/Ultraman X protected Gai Kurenai/Ultraman Orb from Darebolic's beam, turning into a gem. Later, he, along with Ultraman Ginga and Ultraman Victory, transferred part of their power to Orb, enabling him to transform into his "Orb Trinity" form. After Juggler threw the Dark Ring into the alternate dimension created by Bullton, everything returned to normal. Daichi and Orb then teamed up to face the alien army and defeated Alien Guts Doppel.
In the end, Daichi expressed his gratitude to the SSP members and returned to his own universe.Ultraman Orb The Movie: Let Me Borrow the Power of Bonds!
Ultraman Taiga The Movie: New Generation Climax[]
After sealing Grimdo, the New Generation Heroes lost their ability to transform, and went to Taiga's Earth to protect Hiroyuki Kudo. Daichi first appeared to help Pirika Asahikawa, who had been hacked by a virus. Soon, Grimdo landed on Earth, and fought against Ultraman Rosso, Ultraman Blu and Ultraman Taiga. However, they were no match for the beast and were about to be defeated until Ultraman Taro arrived to rescue his son. Soon, Taro fell for Tregear's trap and was possessed by Grimdo after executing the Ultra Dynamite on it. Now under the monster's control, Taro assaulted the three Ultras and forced them to revert.
After Katsumi Minato, Isami Minato and Hiroyuki confronted Kirisaki, Daichi received the X-let from Hiroyuki, restoring his X Devizer. The New Generation Heroes transformed to fight against Tregear, Taro, and a monster army revived from their Rings. They power-up to their strongest forms in response to Grimdo granting the monsters some of its power, and manage to defeat their opponents. Afterwards, Tregear offered himself to Grimdo, who had been released from Taro's body. This caused Grimdo to swallow him and grow to giant size, and regain its full power. The New Generation Heroes consecutively use their finishers against Grimdo, but to no effect. Just was they were about to be blasted by Grimdo, Taro protected the New Generation Heroes with a barrier and told them to pour their energy into Taiga's Ultra Horns. Upon doing so, Hiroyuki received the New Generation Eye and transformed into Ultraman Reiga, and defeated Grimdo.
With the battle over, the New Generation Heroes gave some parting words to Hiroyuki before leaving for their home worlds. Ultraman Taiga The Movie: New Generation Climax

Trivia[]
- Just as shown in the initial transformation interactions, Daichi has a fear of heights, which prevents him from piloting the Xio Musketty. Interestingly, Yuichi Nakamura, who voices Ultraman X, shares this same fear of heights.
- As revealed in Ultraman X Super Complete Works, Daichi during his middle school years fell in love, and got into a romantic relationship with an unnamed girl. Their relationship eventually fell apart as Daichi tried making equal time and gifts with others due to his nature of wanting to treat everyone he meets equally.
- In Ultraman Orb The Movie, the scene where Daichi is tied up and unconscious was filmed early in the morning. Remarkably, Kensuke Takahashi, who plays Daichi, actually fell asleep during the shoot. Originally, the script had Daichi asking SSP to help him search for the X Devizer, but producer Yukinobu Tsuruta suggested a change, which led to Daichi and X’s positions being reversed.[12]
- In a 2021 interview, Kensuke Takahashi shared his experience:[13]
- When he first received the audition notice, he was a junior in college and thought, "The Ultraman series is still going?" Since production on the series had previously halted, he hadn’t realized it had resumed.
- One of his strongest memories from the audition process was when the judges said, “I want to see you run!” So he sprinted through the Nikkatsu studio grounds, earning him a spot in the second round. For the third round, he auditioned alongside several female lead candidates, and in the final round, he competed with two other candidates. However, during the audition, he didn’t meet any of the actors he would later work with on X.
- Daichi’s personality closely resembles Takahashi's, so expressing the character felt natural for him.
- In the series, the "Inner Space" scene where Daichi interacts with Ultraman X was actually set in a special area next to the Xio studio, with extremely high temperatures. At the same time, the scene where Daichi picks up the "X Devizer" to transform was filmed using a high-speed camera, so even a slight movement could affect the shot. This made Takahashi pay extra attention to the details during filming.
- Among the cast, Takahashi was the only one whose filming continued until the very last day. When Hideyoshi Iwata, dressed as Ultraman X, presented him with a bouquet, Takahashi felt deeply moved.
