"Ryu... Mebius and the Earth... are count on you."

―Serizawa's words, in Dark Clouds of Despair -Final Trilogy II-

Kazuya Serizawa (セリザワ・カズヤ, Serizawa Kazuya) is the first human host of Ultraman Hikari. Serizawa was originally thought dead until his reappearance under Hikari's control. Serizawa was the former captain of GUYS before Sakomizu replaced him.

Personality[]

Serizawa initially displayed a composed, talkative, yet slightly sharp personality. He had a strong sense of duty towards protecting the Earth and possessed extensive combat experience, which he imparted to his subordinate Ryu. During missions, he demonstrated remarkable leadership abilities.

However, upon becoming the host for Hikari, his demeanor transformed into one of greater silence, restraint, and disciplined adherence to Hikari's intentions. His primary motivation became following Hikari's guidance in his actions. As time passed, he gradually regained his original consciousness, rekindling his trust in humanity. This allowed him to reveal a more emotionally fused aspect of himself. With the passage of time, his consciousness gradually merged with that of Hikari.

History[]

Injured Serizawa Mebius Ep15

Serizawa severely injured after a failed testing.

Before Shingo Sakomizu took office, Serizawa served as the captain of GUYS. In his youth, he learned the "5 Ultra Oaths" from a friend, which instilled in him the core belief that his primary motivation in battle should be to "not rely on the power of others, maintain inner passion, and keep that passion burning within."

After joining GUYS, he became a METEOR test pilot under the guidance of Chief Maintenance Araiso. He has piloted many METEOR-equipped old fighter jets, including SSSP's Sub VTOL, Ultra Guard's Ultra Hawk No.1, MAT's MAT Arrow 1, TAC's TAC Arrow, and UGM's Silver Gull α. During the dawn of the development, engine burning and crashing were not uncommon, usually leaving Serizawa severly injured, but eventually led to the matured system for the later Gun Phoenix. Later, he passed on he became a sort of father figure to his subordinate Ryu Aihara. On one occasion, Ryu had reviewed headquarters' records and saw that the Defense Teams had hardly ever defeated a monster without relying on Ultraman. This made the young man question the point of GUYS and what he was doing. Serizawa explained that Ultraman often only appeared when the Defense Teams of old had fought to their limits. It was his belief that the Defense Teams, showed Ultraman that mankind was a species worth defending, because they did not merely leave their fate to the whims of others.Terrible Predator

Kazuya merge Tsurugi

The moment the plane explodes, Serizawa is rescued by Tsurugi and takes over his body.

When Dinozole first appeared in Earth's orbit, Serizawa lead the members of GUYS to fight it in space. After the rest of the team was killed by the space monster, Serizawa ejected Ryu from their plane and attempted to crash his plane into the beast as a last ditch effort, leaving the Future of GUYS in Ryu's hands. However, as their teammates were defeated one after another, Serizawa piloted the fighter alone, sacrificing himself by crashing into the monster to save Ryu. All that remained of him for Ryu was Serizawa's communicator. A Fateful Encounter

Presumed dead by everyone, his body was noticed by the Hunter Knight Tsurugi, who had arrived on Earth in search of Bogarl. Tsurugi chose to merge with him as his human identity and used his body while suppressing Serizawa's mind. A Fateful EncounterSince then Serizawa lied dormant within his own body but constant interactions with Ryu would cause his mind to stir to Tsurugi's annoyance.

Ryu, would encounter Tsurugi while standing on a cliff, and there would reveal the nature of Serizawa's return and their merger. Upset by this Ryu demanded Tsurugi to free Serizawa but was rejected. However, Ryu would not surrender and would continue to call out to his former captain, slowly but surely causing his mind to stur. This would affect Tsurugi softening his dark heart despite his efforts. Eventually, Tsurugi would have his revenge on Bogarl, but the final battle would see him gravely wounded. The blue Ultra was not finished however, as Mother of Ultra would save him, freeing him from his evil armor and restoring him. However, this was only possible thanks to Serizawa's will to live, holding on for both their lives.

Kazuya Serizawa 014

Under the miracle of Mother of Ultra, Serizawa/Hikari was revived again.

Sometime later, Hikari and Serizawa would return to Earth, hunting an Alien Babarue they had fought in space. The evil alien took on the form of Tsurugi and caused destruction in the city, bringing the poor reputation Tsurugi had sown prior down on Hikari and Serizawa. To clear his name Serizawa complied to being imprison, being freed when Barabarue attacked again, still in his Tsurugi disguise. With encouragement from his human allies, Serizawa transformed and bested the evil alien, clearing his name and the reputation of all blue Ultras to come after him.

―Ryu hearing Serizawa's voice

Although it is believed that Serizawa is dead after the battle with Alien Empera, he was revealed to be alive and had completely assimilated with Hikari. While Ryu was in a trance with Ultraman King, Serizawa's voice was briefly heard by Ryu when Hikari appeared in front of Ryu as Hikari tells Ryu about the backstory of Armored Darkness and the Dark Sphere. Transformation[]

Knight Brace: During his time as Hikari's/Tsurugi's host, Serizawa transformed two ways, one was by using the Knight Brace and the other was using the Travel Sphere ability to switch between forms.
