Mermaid is a large cargo ship registered to the port of Liverpool which delivers cargo to Tidmouth Harbour. She mostly delivers crates of fish, which are loaded into the Flying Kipper to be distributed across the Island of Sodor and the Mainland.

North Star is a large cargo ship that used to delivered cargo to the Great Yarmouth Docks, Norfolk. Toby and several of his brothers used to work here.

- Nancy never appeared in any of The Railway Series stories, but were in Awdry's model railway scrapbook, as part of the Awdry Study at the Narrow Gauge Railway Museum in Tywyn, Wales, United Kingdom.
- Nancy was built by Reverend W. Awdry's brother, George Awdry.
- Nancy, alongside a trawler named Violet, were featured on the Reverend W. Awdry's layout of The North Western Railway.
