The Works Diesel is a blue mixed-traffic diesel engine who lives and works at Crovan's Gate Works.
Biography
The Works Diesel rescued James after his injector failed, and managed to change James' opinion of diesels with his charismatic personality.[4] He later brought the Christmas tree for Thomas from the Mainland.[5]
Personality
Although the Works Diesel never spoke, he is described as being friendly and is impossible to not like - even James, who retained a hearty dislike of diesels, could not help but befriend him before the two had even reached the Works.
Technical Details
Basis
The Works Diesel is based on a British Rail (BR) Class 47 "Brush" Co-Co diesel-electric engine. Five-hundred and twelve members of this class were built from 1962 to 1968. Thirty-two of these engines are preserved by museums, such as the National Railway Museum, and heritage railways, such as the Midland Railway - Butterley. Another thirty members are still used on the national railway network.
Livery
The Works Diesel is painted in the BR Rail Blue livery with yellow cabs. He has yellow warning panels on his front and back end. His rooftop is painted dark grey, and his buffer beams are painted brown with dark grey buffers. He lacks a BR crest or logo and has his number painted on his sides in white.
