Synopsis[]
A dangerous encounter with Desert Sharks leads to Komatsu's disappearance, which leads Toriko and Zebra to the foot of the Gourmet Pyramid!
Summary[]
While Toriko was renting camels, Zebra went to Komatsu, telling him that he heard him complaining to Toriko. Komatsu apologized, saying he never knew about Zebra’s personality, and got cocky. Through listening to his vitals, Zebra knew Komatsu wasn’t lying, and said he hadn’t seen such an honest guy before. He continued; that the cockiest thing ever is someone who backbites others, and then covers it up when he meets them. For that, he forgave Komatsu, but demanded a condition... Finally, they rent the Reservoir Camels, and head out in the desert. Komatsu wondered why the old woman gave them supposedly rental camels, but offered they keep them, and Toriko answered; since they’re going to Gourmet Pyramid, she thought they won’t ever make it back. They met Desert Sharks on the way. Zebra asked if they’re edible, and when Toriko answered in the negative, Zebra chased them off with his Weak Point Voice. To Toriko’s surprise, not only did Zebra refrain from eating them, but also safely chased them off, marking a self-control that’s unlike Zebra. They venture through sandstorms and whirlwinds, until finally reaching the red maze, Desert Labyrinth. The extreme temperature reminded Toriko of Gourmet World, and as soon as he turned around to warn Komatsu about hydration, Komatsu was gone. Quicksand spots appeared, and the camels ran and left them behind. Desert Labyrinth’s heat forms a mirage, which Komatsu was taken in by, and then absorbed inside the quicksand. Using Echolocation surprised Zebra, because as it turned out, Komatsu was really far inside the sand, drifting at a crazy speed, that Zebra had to restrain his voice to maintain his pursuing technique.
Moving on, they came across a Sand Flower Fish and dined on it, and while eating, Zebra noticed Toriko’s blood had moisture, meaning he adapted to the heat. They kept on going through the desert, climbing dune after another. Toriko asked Zebra if he’d adapted to the desert, and Zebra answered that he’d been going out of Honey Prison in Magma Season for walks. “I’m not adapting to the desert… It’s a matter of whether or not the desert can adapt to me.”Then, Toriko mentions that it’d be lucky if Komatsu were alive, as he wouldn’t have stood a chance if he’d walked the desert with them. Zebra then suspected Komatsu had talent for finding ingredients. After climbing the dune, they finally reach Gourmet Pyramid.
