Hasekura Reiri's Clique (支倉冷理の派閥 Hasekura Reiri no Habatsu?, alt. "Hasekura Reiri's Faction"), also referred to as the Hasekura Clique (支倉派閥 Hasekura Habatsu?, alt. "Hasekura Faction"), was the third largest clique in Tokiwadai Middle School, one year prior to the main story, led by Hasekura Reiri.[1]
Principles[]
The Hasekura Clique was the oldest and third-largest of Tokiwadai's 'big three' cliques (behind the Sha Clique and the Mikagami Clique respectively), one year before the main story, during Misaka Mikoto and Shokuhou Misaki's first year at Tokiwadai Middle School.[1] It was led by third year student Hasekura Reiri and formerly the largest clique before being overtaken by the other two (supposedly without the two intending to).[1] Around 17% of Tokiwadai's students were members of the clique.[2] According to Shokuhou Misaki's analysis, ignoring numbers and in terms of power, the Hasekura Clique was the strongest of the top three cliques.[3]
According to Kessai Kiyoshi (a first-year member of the clique but actually related to Sha Danshan),[1][4] it was a carnivorous clique, with members willing to throw others under the bus to succeed.[1]
According to Shokuhou's analysis, while Hasekura's fame and charisma drew students to the clique, with Hasekura standing at the apex of Tokiwadai and travelling overseas to represent the city, her high-spec nature meant she did not really need support, being able to do most things by herself and often getting the job done faster and better by doing so. As such, it was hard to find a place in the clique without lots of power, with the current members being the elites who did find one, which to Shokuhou was why they were only the third-largest.[3] Despite its size, the clique apparently had no administration, with everyone running it equally.[3]
Background[]
The clique's full background isn't known, but it was the oldest of the 'big three' cliques and was previously the number one clique.[1][5] However, the number of people willing to join the Mikagami Clique and put in effort to get results, in order to have Mikagami use her ability for their benefit, led them to overtake the Hasekura Clique, briefly becoming number one before being overtaken by the Sha Clique in turn.[1][6][5]

First Year Arc[]
- Main article: First Year Arc
When Misaka Mikoto was promoted to Level 5, the Hasekura Clique took advantage of her previous prideful roommate moving out to insert one of their own members, first-year Kessai Kiyoshi, into the vacancy to secretly monitor her.[7] Not long afterwards, in early May, Hasekura Reiri met Mikoto herself and had a contest with her, confirming some of her subordinates' thoughts.[6]
During the summer, Hasekura was away from Tokiwadai for a time for a demonstration in Paris.[8][9][10] The clique hoped to use this opportunity to get more applicants,[10] but this was dashed when a conflict arose between them and the Mikagami Clique, secretly engineered by Sha Danshan to undermine her rivals' progress.[9][4] After the initial attack on Kazan'in Tsukasa, supposedly by the ability of Enjou Kasumi whom she quarreled with earlier in the day, the Hasekura Clique fiercely denied the allegations against them by the Hasekura Clique. A further attack that injured another Mikagami Clique member led to the nearby Kessai being targeted for retaliation,[8] though it was stopped by Misaka Mikoto and Shin'enkouji Rurikakesu.[9]
Though Hasekura ordered her clique not to start anything until she returned, Yasutoba Suika ignored her orders and attempted to take out Mikagami Nagisa, alone after failing to get her fellow members to follow her.[5][11] Ambushing Mikagami while she was walking with Sukezawa Sena and Kadosaka Rina, Yasutoba defeated the pair after the initial escape as they tried to cover for their leader, but was defeated by Mikagami herself.[11][12]
After this ambush, tensions remained high, with certain members of the Mikagami Clique in favor of a counterattack against the Hasekura Clique. Walking home at night after such a meeting, Urui Aika spotted Misaka Mikoto practicing her new technique and on trying to leave, accidentally ran into a group from the Hasekura Clique. A clash of esper abilities resulted, with Mikoto intervening on the outnumbered Urui's behalf.[13] When this initially secret help was exposed, Amano Ayane challenged Mikoto to test her power, leading to her Railgun being used in action for the first time to save the other girls from a severed wind turbine blade, an event which further overshadowed Hasekura's performance in Paris.[14][10]
When Hasekura returned, she began an investigation into the clique conflict.[14] After a chance encounter with Shokuhou Misaki, in which Hasekura ascertained Shokuhou's character (including that she would make a good clique leader, something she suggested) and that she was not the culprit,[10] Hasekura obtained evidence with help from Mikoto and Ruri with which to form a truce with Mikagami while looking for the suspected third party responsible for the conflict.[10][15] After several days without movement from the mastermind, Hasekura tried to provoke them by making it appear that Shokuhou was also aiding her, assigning her two aides to guard her and strengthen the ruse (which others in the clique believed).[15]
After a thwarted ambush against Hasekura herself and subsequent investigation leading to the discovery of Montgolfier's involvement, the Hasekura Clique fully supported action against the apparent culprit.[16] During the company raid, Hasekura acted separately from her clique to detect any secondary masterminds, while Mibuki Kazan was disguised as her with the clique,[16][4] with Ruri accompanying them as a member of Judgment with a search warrant and having buffed the clique with her supportive ability beforehand for additional protection.[16][4][17] When hostilities broke out, the Hasekura Clique were reinforced by Mikagami Clique and Sha Clique,[16][4] and soon defeated Montgolfier's forces, while Hasekura identified and defeated their employers Antikythera on her own.[4] Afterwards, Hasekura felt that things had been tied up a little too neatly, but did not pursue her suspicions. At the same time, the true mastermind Sha disposed of evidence and the remaining Antikythera members she had made her scapegoat.[4]
In October, some members of the clique went to see a performance of commedia dell'arte at a theatre in School District 9, as part of their art appreciation elective, along with members of the Mikagami Clique (with things still somewhat on edge between them despite the conflict's conclusion) and Shokuhou Misaki. During the performance, a fire broke out backstage, which the Tokiwadai students only learned about on their way out.[3] Although briefly overwhelmed by the panicking crowd, crowd control and prompting from Shokuhou led the students to all work together in ensuring that everyone got out safely.[18]
When Hasekura graduated at the start of Tokiwadai's current year, members of her clique congratulated her while also biding a tearful farewell. Among her clique, Yasutoba Suika and Amano Ayane also graduated.[19]

Enjou Kasumi's friend, a girl with short, parted hair.[8][16] Her personality is largely unknown, though she kept her friend from getting into a fight.[8] Her ability can apparently detect lies (in the case of the lying Montgolfier representative, her analysis detected dousing-level abnormal vibrations in the muscle fibers across his body - a standard reaction to extreme nerves).[16] She was with Enjou Kasumi during her initial argument with Kazan'in Tsukasa and acted to stop a fight breaking out alongside Kazan'in's friend.[8] She was with Enjou at the time of the attack on Kazan'in alleged to be by Enjou and the trigger for the clique conflict.[8] She was present during the clique's raid on Montgolfier and confirmed that the representative was lying through her ability.[16] In October, she was present during the theatre fire incident.[18]
A girl with short hair, one frontal tuft curling to her right.[9] Given she was unaware of Ruri's position in Judgment, she was likely a 1st or 2nd year student.[16] Her personality is largely unknown, but she sighed at Yasutoba's actions and was angered by Montgolfier's apparent manipulations.[9][16] Her ability is currently unknown. She may have also been present when Asato Kisa and another were helping Kessai Kiyoshi get through a large supply of yoghurt,[7] She was present during the initial group confrontation between the Mikagami and Hasekura cliques after the attack on Kazan'in Tsukasa, alongside Asato Kisa.[8] She was with Asato when Yasutoba Suika ignored relayed instructions from Hasekura.[9][5] She was also present when girls from the clique were discussing rumors that Shokuhou was cooperating with Hasekura.[15] She was later present during the clique's meeting to discuss findings on the attacking culprit and the subsequent raid on Montgolfier.[16][4]
A girl with short/medium length hair.[8] Details concerning her personality and her ability are currently unknown. She was present during the initial group confrontation between the Mikagami and Hasekura cliques after the attack on Kazan'in Tsukasa, alongside Asato Kisa.[8] She may have also been present when Asato Kisa and another were helping Kessai Kiyoshi get through a large supply of yoghurt,[7] and when girls from the clique were discussing rumors that Shokuhou was cooperating with Hasekura.[15]
A girl with wavy hair.[13] Details concerning her personality and her ability are currently unknown. She was present alongside another clique member, shooting a look at some nearby Mikagami girls, illustrating the state of tension at the time,[13] after the attack on Mikagami Nagisa and shortly before the second incident in the conflict that Mikoto was involved in.[13]
A girl with a bobcut.[13] Details concerning her personality and her ability are currently unknown. She was present alongside another clique member, shooting a look at some nearby Mikagami girls, illustrating the state of tension at the time,[13] after the attack on Mikagami Nagisa and shortly before the second incident in the conflict that Mikoto was involved in.[13] She was also present during the clique's raid on Montgolfier, scattering with the others as the guards rushed the lower level.[16]
A girl with a slightly wild ponytail.[16] Given she was unaware of Ruri's position in Judgment, she was likely a 1st or 2nd year student.[16] Details concerning her personality and her ability are currently unknown. She was present during the clique's raid on Montgolfier, among the first to notice the guards rushing into the lower level.[16]
A girl with short/medium length hair and low-tied bangs.[16] Details concerning her personality and her ability are currently unknown. She was present during the clique's raid on Montgolfier, among the first to notice the guards rushing into the lower level.[16] |
Trivia[]
- Similar to the other two cliques in the 'big three', most members of the Hasekura clique seen so far as of Chapter 143 (with the exceptions of Mibuki Kazan and Kessai Kiyoshi, the latter secretly related to Sha Danshan) have colors of hair depicted using shades of grey in the monochrome sections of the manga, like with their leader (brown in her case).[8][9][5][14][10][15][16][4][20]
