Description[]

Captured

Zangief slams Cammy to the ground during Captured.

"Grab an opponent and slam them to the ground while leaping backwards. Throws your opponent while switching places with them."
Street Fighter 6

Executed by pressing Light Punch and Light Kick, (the throw command) and pushing backwards near an opponent. Zangief starts the throw by catching one of the opponent's legs and pulls them towards him so that they are face-to-face, with Zangief reaching under the opponent's leg and hooking it. With a the other arm around the back of their head, Zangief scoops his opponent off of the ground, turns 180° and slams them back-first down to the ground.

Tactics[]

While Zangief's gameplay is heavily reliant on command throws, it is important to have his normal throws as an option. Even though this move does less damage compared to Screw Pile Driver, it has less frames of whiff recovery. If Zangief is going for a meaty attack, the opponent may try to respond with a neutral jump to avoid the potential command throw and be in position to whiff punish him. However, the normal throw gives Zangief plenty of time to recover and launch a counterattack against the opponent. It is also a good way to get the opponent's back in the corner.

Trivia[]

  • This move is based on a popular professional wrestling move called the Capture Suplex, which is used by many professional wrestlers such as Randy Orton and Charlotte Flair.
  • Captured was originally intended to be used in Street Fighter II, but hardware limitations prevented it from being properly conveyed in 2D.
