"We're losing all our power… That energy field has left us defenseless!"
―Commander Wolffe, after the Malevolence fires one of its ion cannons at the Triumphant — (audio) Listen (file info)[1]

The Triumphant was a Venator-class Star Destroyer and the flagship of Jedi Master Plo Koon during the Clone Wars. The starship was destroyed in the Battle of Abregado, during which Koon and his fleet encountered the Subjugator-class heavy cruiser Malevolence.

The majority of the Triumphant's crew was killed in its destruction, with only Koon, Commander Wolffe and clone troopers Boost and Sinker surviving.

History[]

In 22 BBY,[6] the starship Triumphant took part in the hunt for a mystery Separatist weapon that was wreaking havoc upon Galactic Republic fleets.[1]

The Triumphant and accompanying fleet track the Malevolence to the Abregado system

With Jedi Master Plo Koon, Commander Wolffe and clone troopers Boost and Sinker on board, the Triumphant, alongside two Venator-class Star Destroyers, tracked the mystery weapon to the Abregado system. Here, they discovered the Subjugator-class heavy cruiser Malevolence commanded by General Grievous and Count Dooku.[1]

Before engaging the cruiser, Koon contacted Jedi Knight Anakin Skywalker and his Padawan, Ahsoka Tano, who were stationed in the nearby Bith system, to report his position and ask for reinforcements. Skywalker relayed that he had strict orders to protect their staging area and couldn't join Koon, before their communications were disrupted by the Malevolence. With the Separatist cruiser closing in, the Triumphant prepared for battle.[1]

Before Koon's fleet was in firing range, however, the Malevolence fired one of its ion cannons, sending out a massive shock wave of ion energy that left the Triumphant and accompanying cruisers without power and defenseless against an onslaught of turbolaser fire. The two leading Star Destroyers were destroyed in a matter of moments, and Koon ordered his crew on board the Triumphant to evacuate. Four escape pods ejected from the flagship before its destruction, though one struck a passing piece of debris and exploded.[1]

Later, two of the three remaining pods were hunted down by a pod hunter, with the Malevolence not wanting to leave survivors that could report the position and nature of its mystery weapon. Koon, Wolffe, Boost, and Sinker, aboard the remaining lifepod, fought off the pod hunter and were eventually rescued from the debris field by Skywalker and Tano in the Twilight, making them the sole survivors of the destruction of the Triumphant.[1]

Behind the scenes[]

The Triumphant first appeared in a flashback sequence for "Ambush."

The episode "Rising Malevolence" depicts the Triumphant's wings with three red stripes in some scenes and five stripes in others. Since the majority of scenes depict fives stripes, this article assumes that five stripes is correct.[1]
