Publisher's summary[]
Darth Vader is on a mission for the Emperor!
When the Rebellion's hit-and-run attacks on Imperial cargo ships become too audacious to be ignored, Darth Vader is sent in to find the Rebel base and destroy it. But the base, hidden in the center of a constantly shifting asteroid field, cannot be attacked directly.
To reach his target, Vader will have to team up with a recently captured smuggler named Luca—and dealing with an unwilling, wisecracking partner may be more of a trial for the Dark Lord than the actual mission!

Plot summary[]
In a hit-and-run attack, the Rebels commandeer an Imperial-class Star Destroyer carrying a piece of the weapons system of the new Death Star. Darth Vader captures a ship transporting supplies to the Rebel base in the area commanded by Luca. Since no Imperial recon has made it back out of the asteroid field, Vader makes Luca punch codes that turn off Rebel defenses. Luca betrays Darth Vader by refusing to turn off the final defenses. Luca and Vader are shot down and crash on the planet hiding the Rebel base. Luca tells an unconscious Vader that he once had a toy soldier that could do anything but had no free will. Luca and Vader destroy an old defense droid. Luca leads Vader to the Rebel base, where Vader massacres the Rebels, but leaves Luca alive. Luca tells Vader that he is like the toy soldier, that he has no free will. Darth Vader recovers the Star Destroyer and is sent on another mission for the Emperor.
