- "Truth be told, bakin' hasn't always been my strong suit, but I get by well enough. And in the case of this Endorian rorkid bread, I've got the Ewoks to thank for a recipe that I ain't managed to mess up yet."
- ―Strono Tuggs, The Life Day Cookbook
Rorkid bread was a type of beige bread made with green seasoning and herbs that came from the Forest Moon of Endor.[1] It was edible by Endor's native Ewoks. One winter on Endor, the Ewok Teebo used a scrap of the bread to clean up his bowl once he had finished the ground-apple stock in it.[2] Shortly before the Battle of Endor[3] in 4 ABY,[4] Rebel Alliance leader Leia Organa gave the Ewok Wicket Wystri Warrick a ration bar[3] that reminded him of a crumblier, drier version of rorkid bread.[5]
At some point after the Artiodac Strono Tuggs published his first cookbook[1] in 34 ABY,[6] the chef included a recipe for Endorian rorkid bread in his second cookbook, The Life Day Cookbook. Despite baking not being a talent of his, the recipe that Tuggs had acquired from the Ewoks had never failed him yet. In the book, the chef recommended pairing the winter rolls with Kublag Curry—also featured in the cookbook—but he noted that it would work as a side for any soup or stew.[1]
Behind the scenes[]
Rorkid bread first appeared in "The Kroolok," a short story written by George Mann and Cavan Scott and published in the[2] September 7, 2021[7] short story collection Life Day Treasury.[2] It was first pictured in the recipe book Star Wars: The Life Day Cookbook, authored by Jenn Fujikawa and Marc Sumerak[1] and published on November 9 of that same year.[8]
The out-of-universe recipe for the bread includes all-purpose flour, instant dry yeast, salt, garlic powder, onion powder, water, and olive oil. The topping requires butter, minced garlic cloves, basil, oregano, salt, and matcha powder.[1]
