Ohwun De Maal, sometimes known by his aliases Ellorrs Madak and Bringe, was a male Duros who, like the typical member of the race, had natural piloting and navigation skill. Maal owned a DH-17 blaster pistol.
Biography[]
He was a former scout and freelance instructor, teaching whoever would pay him how to fly starships. He made several runs to important trade worlds such as Celanon, Byblos, and Yaga Minor. Along with his wife, Chachi De Maal, the pair owned several docking bays in Mos Eisley including Docking Bays 27, 43, 67, 71, 86, and 94. They also owned the droid WED-9-M1. Owhun and his wife were both in Chalmun's Spaceport Cantina during Luke Skywalker's fateful encounter with Han Solo. During Solo's stay on Tatooine, he happened to be using Docking Bay 94, owned by the pair (and by Ohwun's father before them). When Solo and his group blasted out of the docking bay past the Galactic Empire, the previous amicable friendship between the Duros and Jabba Desilijic Tiure turned sour.
Ohwun and his wife sometimes worked for the Galactic Empire, and in their line of work, dealing with shady characters on a frequent basis, they used several aliases. Among the ones Ohwun used were Ellorrs Madak and Bringe, who were never seen without their respective partners, Baniss Keeg and Probos, the aliases Chachi used.
The couple once discovered a star with three dead planets, all of which were rich in Helixell, a key mineral in hyperdrive fuel. As of 0 BBY, they were deciding on whether to report their findings to the Empire or secretly claim the Helixell for themselves.[2]
They were also known to have smuggled bacta to the Rebel Alliance in their freighter, Millanti.[3]
Behind the scenes[]
The Masters of the Empire interview with host Jay Laga'aia, which took place on the Celebration Stage during Celebration V in August 2010, revealed that, during the cantina scene from A New Hope, Jon Berg played both Madak and Keeg.[4] They were called "Goggle-Eyes" on the set; they were not named until years later.[5]
In the Star Wars Gamer 2 article "The University of Sanbra Guide to Intelligent Life: The Duros," Madak and his partner Keeg were both identified as the two Duros, Owhun De Maal and Chachi De Maal, from Galaxy Guide 7: Mos Eisley that owned Docking Bay 94. The information clarified that Baniss Keeg and Ellorrs Madak were aliases used by the Duros couple. This retcon also identified Ohwun De Maal as the Duros known as Bringe that appeared in the Star Wars Screen Entertainment sourcebook.
Inside the Worlds of Star Wars Trilogy spelled Ellorrs Madak's first name "Ellor."
Madak was the No. 1 Fan's Choice Figure for Hasbro's Power of the Jedi line.
