R5-D4's blown-out motivator
A motivator was an important[2] type of device found in droids, such as the R5 series astromech droids like R5-D4[3] or GNK-series power droid like EG-30,[4] and in starships such as the Millennium Falcon.[5] The droid R4-G77 also had a motivator.[6]
If defective, they could blow out explosively, potentially sabotaging the entire droid.[3] The motivator played a role in deciding the droid's loyalties, with an adjustment to a droid's motivator serving to reprogram its loyalties.[1]
