- "You wanted to free your fellow Wookiees—well, now you can join them mining ore on Jabiim."
- ―A First Order stormtrooper commander, to Chewbacca
Jabiim was a terrestrial planet[10] situated within the regions known as the Outer Rim Territories[1] and the Slice.[2] Connected to Sy Myrth and Taskeed by hyperspace routes, it was positioned at the coordinates S-7[1] on the Standard Galactic Grid.[11] Ore was one of the main exports of Jabiim.[5]
History[]
By the Imperial Era, Jabiim was a planet that had been largely forgotten by the galaxy.[12] It was only known for its mining operations and as a way station for more desirable destinations,[13] becoming a dumping ground and sanitation depot.[14] Due to this reputation,[12] the Hidden Path, an underground network that helped Force-sensitives escape Imperial persecution, used a safehouse on Jabiim as the penultimate destination on "the Path," in which Jedi and other Force-sensitives received new identities.[9]

The Imperial Army attacks the Path compound on Jabiim.
In 9 BBY,[15] Obi-Wan Kenobi, Tala Durith, and young Princess Leia Organa joined the rest of the Path in getting Leia to safety. However, Leia's companion droid, L0-LA59 had been outfitted with a tracking device by the Third Sister, allowing her and Darth Vader to follow them to the planet.[6] During the attack, the Path, Kenobi and Organa among them, managed to escape Vader's wrath. The Third Sister would also attempt to assassinate Vader soon after in revenge for his role in the Great Jedi Purge, but Vader humiliated the former Youngling and left her to die before revealing that the Grand Inquisitor, whom she thought she had also assassinated, had survived.[8]
During the First Order-Resistance War, Jabiim fell under the control of the First Order, who trafficked Wookiee slaves from Kashyyyk to mine ore on Jabiim. When the Resistance operative Chewbacca was captured during the blockade of Kashyyyk, a First Order stormtrooper commander planned to send him to Jabiim along with a group of slaves. With the assistance of a porg named Terbus, however, Chewbacca managed to free the Wookiee prisoners and escape enslavement.[5]
Behind the scenes[]
- "The great thing about a planet like Jabiim is that it had a very strong graphic element in terms of both the palette and a form language that it was in this crater. We wanted to make it feel like it was a dumping ground. It was a sanitation depot."
- ―Doug Chiang
