Hadrium alloy[2] was a type of metal alloy used in the construction of the KYD-21 blaster pistol. The Clawdite bounty hunter and assassin Zam Wesell owned one such blaster pistol and made use of it until the time of her death[1] in 22 BBY.[3] Around 9 ABY,[4] an illustration of Wesell holding her hadrium alloy KYD-21 was included in The Secrets of the Bounty Hunters, a book authored by the pirate Hondo Ohnaka.[5] Another drawing of Wesell and her blaster was included in an artist's journal entry dedicated to Clawdites. The journal was restored, expanded, and displayed at the Graf Archive[6] at some point no earlier than 34 ABY.[7]
Behind the scenes[]
Hadrium alloy first appeared in the form of Zam Wesell's KYD-21 blaster pistol in the prequel trilogy film Star Wars: Episode II Attack of the Clones,[8] which was released on May 16, 2002.[9] It was initially misidentified in the current canon as Hadrian alloy in the sixty-fourth issue of the English edition of Star Wars Bust Collection magazine, published by De Agostini[1] on August 18, 2020.[10] It was correctly named hadrium alloy in "Blasters and Ranged Weapons," part of De Agostini's Star Wars Encyclopedia[2] published on February 23, 2021.[11] The substance was identified as hadrium in the Star Wars Legends continuity in the reference book Star Wars: Attack of the Clones: The Visual Dictionary,[12] which was released on April 23, 2002 and authored by David West Reynolds.[13]
Hadrium alloy appeared in the non-canon story "The Village Bride," an episode of the first volume of the animated anthology television series Star Wars: Visions[14] released on September 22, 2021.[15] In the episode, Lord Izuma, the leader of a band of raiders, wielded a KYD-21 while raiding the planet Keelia[14] no earlier than 19 BBY.[16]

- ↑ Star Wars: The Secrets of the Bounty Hunters establishes that the in-universe book was written after the War against the Pykes, but before the statue of IG-11 was taken down in "Chapter 17: The Apostate." Star Wars: Timelines dates the War against the Pykes to 9 ABY, and "Chapter 17: The Apostate" takes place around the same year per the reasoning here. Therefore, The Secrets of the Bounty Hunters must have been created around 9 ABY as well.
