"They're easy to modify for any type of diet, and, most important, they always taste as great as they look. Have a plate and maybe Gormaanda will inspire you too!"
―Strono Tuggs, The Official Black Spire Outpost Cookbook[1]

Glowblue noodles were a blue-hued noodle dish created by the chef Gormaanda, who demonstrated her recipe in one of her cooking holovids. Easily modified for various diets, they could be consumed by humans and by Artiodacs like Strono Tuggs, who included Gormaanda's recipe in The Official Black Spire Outpost Cookbook in 34 ABY. Among other options, they could be served in take-out containers, paired with chav tea, or topped with sauce.

Description[]

Glowblue noodles were[3] a bright[4] blue-hued noodle dish created by Gormaanda, a four-armed chef who demonstrated the recipe in one of her cooking holovids. The basic recipe for the dish could be modified for a variety of diets and was suitable for consumption by Artiodacs[1] and humans.[3]

History[]

"Since then, I've put lots of effort into curatin' a menu that stays true to my culinary point of view and experience, but I still occasionally like to whip up one of Gormaanda's old recipes to remember where it all began. Her glowblue noodles are my go-to."
―Strono Tuggs, The Official Black Spire Outpost Cookbook[1]

A Pre-Mor officer ate glowblue noodles out of a take-out container.

On the planet Morlana One in 5 BBY, glowblue noodles were available in take-out containers. While working to identify the murder suspect Cassian Andor, an officer in the Pre-Mor Security Inspection team ate noodles served in a take-out box while at a workstation in Corporate Security Headquarters.[3] At another time during the Imperial Era, a pavilion on the moon Dhandu 3 served the noodles. When the smuggler Han Solo and the pirate Hondo Ohnaka staged a fight there, Ohnaka shoved Solo into a table, and it inadvertently collapsed, launching a plate of glowblue noodles and chav tea over the Pakiphantos Trunc Adurmush and his gang.[2]

When the Artiodac chef Strono Tuggs was young, he discovered Gormaanda's ancient holovids and was inspired to cook. He was fond of her glowblue noodles and considered them one of his go-to recipes.[1] In 34 ABY,[5] he published his first cookbook, The Official Black Spire Outpost Cookbook, and included his idol's recipe entitled Gormaanda's Glowblue Noodles. As toppings, he added white sauce and spheres, yellow- and orange-colored wedges, and an optional garnish of Golden Lichen Tuile, a savory cookie he created.[1]

Behind the scenes[]

"Other favorites included […] glowblue noodles. Not just because it's blue noodles, which I would not have gone near as a picky eater child, but as an adult, take a sort of perverse pleasure in eating."
―Chelsea Monroe-Cassel[6]

Gormaanda with Glowblue Noodles and Chav from Star Wars Legends

Glowblue noodles first appeared in the new Star Wars canon in the junior novel Pirate's Price, written by Lou Anders[2] and published on January 8, 2019.[7] On November 5 of that year,[8] they were first pictured in the recipe book Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge: The Official Black Spire Outpost Cookbook, written by Marc Sumerak and Chelsea Monroe-Cassel. The out-of-universe recipe uses the ingredients water, blue butterfly pea tea bags, salt, and rice noodles to create blue-colored noodles. It has a cheese sauce made with unsalted butter, minced garlic, salt, pepper, heavy cream, and grated Parmesan cheese. The dish is topped with mozzarella pearls and cherry tomatoes, and it can be garnished with the cookbook's Golden Lichen Tuile recipe.[1]

Monroe-Cassel later clarified that, though the recipe calls for a Golden Lichen Tuile garnish, the dish should have instead been garnished with a parmesan crisp, the instructions for which can be found in the Xizor Salad recipe.[9] In an interview, Monroe-Cassel noted that the recipe for glowblue noodles was one of her favorites from the collection. She felt that she would not have enjoyed the dish while being a picky eater as a child, but now enjoyed the concept of eating blue-colored food as an adult.[6]

In the Star Wars Legends continuity, the meal Glowblue Noodles and Chav was featured in HoloNet News Vol. 531 #50, an in-universe issue of the HoloNet News.[10] It was written by Pablo Hidalgo,[11] illustrated by Joe Corroney, and published on the HoloNet News website[12] on April 4, 2002.[13] In the real world, naturally occurring blue items are rarely editable, which writer Melissa T. Miller pointed out as a difference between the real world and Star Wars universe—where glowblue noodles and other blue food items are much more common place—in the article "Got Blue Milk?," which was published as part of the 227th issue of the Star Wars Insider magazine[4] on August 27, 2024.[14] Within the article, Miller pondered if glowblue noodles get their color from another ingredient added during the cooking process or if it is their natural hue.[4]
