"Force Fiction" is a story by Kevin Rubio. It appeared in Star Wars Tales 7 and was collected in Star Wars Tales Volume 2 and Star Wars Legends Epic Collection: Rise of the Sith Vol. 2.

Plot summary[]

Mace Windu and Yoda debate the possibility of training Anakin Skywalker and expressing their opinions about the Prophecy about the one, who will bring balance to the Force. While eating at a fast food restaurant, they are resorting to food-based analogies to make their points. At one point, Yoda uses his mind control powers on the waitress to make the meal free, to protect them from "evil price hikes." They also fend off a robbery. At the end of the story, Supreme Chancellor Palpatine joins them and expresses his opinion that Skywalker would make a fine Jedi.

Behind the scenes[]

The title and the premise of the story are based on the frame story one of Samuel L. Jackson's most famous movie roles, Jules Winnfield in Pulp Fiction (1994). Windu recites variations of several lines which Winnfield spoke in the earlier film.

It is interesting to note that in the movies, it is Windu who is reluctant of training Anakin, he isn't even convinced that the boy is the "chosen one". This situation is reversed on Rubio's comic book as Mace is trying to convince Yoda that Anakin Skywalker will bring balance to the Force and should be trained. The fact that Yoda is using a purple lightsaber, while this is exclusively Windu's weapon in the movie, might indicate that Rubio is playing along with the roles of the characters.

Yoda's lightsaber in this comic is golden. It was established that Yoda gave a golden lightsaber to Qu Rahn in The Dark Forces Saga. Abel G. Peña alluded to that saber being the one seen in this comic on the Jedi Council Forums.^[2]

Identifiable characters are eating at five of the six tables visible in the background:

• Buzz Lightyear from Toy Story can be seen in the background at a table with the THX Robot.
• Robby the Robot from Forbidden Planet is alongside the robot Gort from The Day the Earth Stood Still at a second table.
• The Beatles in their Sgt. Pepper outfits are at another table.
• A fourth table hosts George Lucas, Rick McCallum, and Jar Jar Binks.
• The fifth of the tables with visible patrons hosts Kevin Rubio and Lucas Marangon, the creators of this story.
• Two unidentified Wookiees are eating at the sixth of the visible tables.

The "Bob's Big Boy" statue from "A Death Star Is Born" can also be seen in the background of several panels.

At one point, Yoda, when demanding to know why Mace Windu would consider recruiting Anakin Skywalker into the Jedi, sarcastically asks whether its because Anakin has "more Whos in his Who-ville" than the other Jedi, which is both a play on the characters and place, respectively, from the Dr. Seuss stories, and a subtle reference to Anakin Skywalker's abnormally high midichlorian count.

The restaurant menu has a long text in Trade Federation Basic. It reads:
