The planet Milagro lay at the confluence of two important hyperroutes, the Corellian Run and the Harrin Trade Corridor.
Description[]
Milagro was located in the Circarpous sector of the Expansion Region,[1] at the intersection of Nanth'ri Route and the Ootmian Pabol.[2] It was a prosperous trade and manufacturing world. Milagro was ruled by its own noble houses, descendants of the first settlers of the planet.[3]
The planet had a thin atmosphere.[4]
Geography[]
By the time of the New Republic, the planet had at least one metropolis of domes, towers such as minarets, and aerial archways. Much of the building material was glass, creating translucent and iridecent effects.[4]
At its thinner-populated suburbs there was a military base. Smaller groups of dwellings were arranged in a silicone plain. On a nearby hill there was an emerald-colored temple with a statue.[4]
The Republic set up a temporary base consisting of sixty-three sprawling prefab buildings with airlocks and inflatable walls, an airstrip, a repair facility and the Military Correction Facility 63. It was defended by surface-to-air missile batteries.[4]
After the city was destroyed, the Republic intended to build a communications mast; its six anchors were to be fused under the molten glass surface that used to belong to the city buildings.[4]
History[]
Milagro was discovered during the Galactic Republic Expansionist Era, that lasted from 25,000 BBY to 20,000 BBY.[2] The planet was settled by Corellian colonists.[3]
During the Clone Wars, the R3 astromech droid known as R3-S6 was stolen from the Republic by agents of General Grievous and was reprogrammed at a Republic base on Milagro to spy for the Confederacy.
During the Imperial Period, the Galactic Empire maintained a large Clone Wars-era military base on the planet.[3]
In 5 ABY, during the Galactic Civil War, the surface of Milagro was bombarded to slag by the Empire, opting for a Base Delta Zero operation rather than allowing the resources of the planet to fall into the hands of the New Republic.[5] The bombardment destroyed the metropolis, reduced to a shimmering sea of molten glass.[4]
Mon Mothma later briefly set up headquarters in the New Hope in orbit of the planet. Three months after a temporary New Republic base was established, the New Hope was attacked by the Empire and wounded from the Mercy manned available starfighters from the base to defend the flagship.[4][5] For his heroism in the ensuing battle, Luke Skywalker was promoted to General.[5] After the battle, the dead were buried and the starships were repaired at the military base.[4]
The Milagro system was conquered by the extra-galactic invaders during the Yuuzhan Vong War.[2]
Behind the scenes[]
In the novella Dark Forces: Rebel Agent, the New Hope is seen orbiting an unnamed planet recently devastated by the Empire, also described as having seas of molten glass, remnant of its former glass cities. Although it could be an appearance of Milagro, context of the audio adaptation suggests that it was another planet.
