Disney Magic Kingdoms is a world-building game developed by Gameloft. Seven Star Wars-themed updates were released between 2019[2] and 2023.[1]
Plot summary[]
Players build their own Disney park using characters and attractions from Disney, Pixar, and Star Wars. Maleficent has cursed the kingdom, and it's up to Merlin, Mickey Mouse, and the other characters to remove the curse and restore the kingdom to its former glory. The game has a dedicated Star Wars "land," with permanent and limited-time Star Wars characters and attractions that players can unlock.[1]
- Main Storyline (December 17, 2019): In the Star Wars portion of the main storyline, C-3PO is tasked with exploring an uncharted territory in the player's kingdom for the Resistance. After welcoming C-3PO, players unlock the Star Wars area in the kingdom.[2]
- "A Galaxy Far, Far Away..." Event (2019): Finn, Poe Dameron, and Rey set out to stop General Hux, Kylo Ren, and the First Order from occupying territory in the kingdom.[1]
- "The Mandalorian" Event (November 10, 2020): Framed as a flashback, C-3PO reads off a Datacard from the Nevarro chapter of the Bounty Hunters' Guild. Set during the events of The Mandalorian's first season, The Mandalorian, Greef Karga, and Cara Dune work together to get past the Imperials in order to allow The Mandalorian and The Child to escape from Nevarro.[1]
- "A New Hope" Event (April 20, 2021): As C-3PO reviews his data banks, he recalls the series of events that led to the Battle of Yavin.[1]
- "The Mandalorian" Season 2 Event (November 9, 2021): Ahsoka Tano, Fennec Shand, and Boba Fett fight blurrgs, ice spiders, and reptavians.[1]
- "The Empire Strikes Back" Event (April 26, 2022): C-3PO continues to review his data banks, this time on the events following the Battle of Hoth. He encounters a number of time-index errors before identifying the correct memories of Luke Skywalker and Boba Fett. Luke is on Dagobah, after his vision quest and preparing to leave Yoda; meanwhile, Lando Calrissian "welcomes" Darth Vader and the bounty hunter Boba Fett to Cloud City. At that point, C-3PO experiences destabilization of his memory subroutines and they all start coming out at once; frustrated, he shouts "ENOUGH!" and that seems to resolve the problem. The remaining memories show Fett finding he's being tailed by IG-88 and laying a successful ambush for the rival hunter. Meanwhile, Yoda contemplates the will of the Force and asks R2-D2 to watch over Luke.[1]
- "Return of the Jedi & The Mandalorian" Event (May 9, 2023): As C-3PO finally isolates the source of his data corruption, an Imperial virus in the form of Moff Gideon takes over C-3PO's memory system. The virus attempts to rewrite historical events from the perspective of the Empire, particularly the confrontation between Emperor Palpatine and Luke Skywalker. C-3PO's antivirus protocol eventually destroys the virus, with everything returning to normal.[1]
Gameplay[]
A Star Wars-themed area is available for players to unlock after doing storyline quests with C-3PO, containing three unlockable plots of land. The area is surrounded by buildings, objects, and decorations from Tatooine, Hoth, Endor, Jakku, Takodana, and Ahch-To. Star Wars attractions placed in the area garner 15% more magic.
Permanent characters and attractions are unlocked throughout the storyline. Limited-time characters and attractions are only available for the duration of an event, and then made available through Legendary Chests that players can buy with gems or real money.[1]
