Star Wars Celebration Anaheim of 2022 was the fourteenth Celebration convention. It was held from May 26 to 29 at the Anaheim Convention Center in Anaheim, California. Originally scheduled for August 27–30, 2020, it was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and rescheduled for the same location in 2022, the year marking the 45th anniversary of the Star Wars franchise.
History[]
Celebration Anaheim was announced as the next official Star Wars Celebration on the fourth day of 2019's Celebration Chicago.[3] It was originally scheduled to be held August 27–30, 2020, at the Anaheim Convention Center in Anaheim, California.[1] A trailer was released,[4] and tickets went on sale on June 21, 2019.[5]
In early 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic struck. As a result, Lucasfilm postponed Celebration Anaheim two years,[6] marking the first cancellation or postponement of any Celebration.[7][8] The convention was rescheduled for August 18–21, 2022, at the same location. Fans who had already purchased tickets were offered a choice of either a refund or transferring their tickets to the new dates.[6]
On August 28, 2020, exclusive merchandise created for the convention was placed on sale at an online store, initially open only to those who had purchased tickets for the original dates of the convention. The store became open to the general public on August 31.[9] The merchandise store was opened again for early access on November 13, and to the general public on November 20.[10] Exclusive artwork and prints intended for the convention were placed on sale in an art show beginning December 15, 2020.[11]
On May 12, 2021, StarWars.com announced that the Celebration was being moved up from August, and would now be held May 26–29, 2022.[2] Tickets went on sale on March 15, 2022, along with merchandise pre-orders for ticketholders.[12] The Celebration's first guests were announced on March 24.[13] The convention's first panel was announced on April 6,[14] and the full schedule was unveiled on April 27.[15]
