- "This information was recovered from the Arcane Library and appears to have been defaced. The discovery of this new material, which has brought to light the existence of Darth Plagueis, has helped to further construct the existing, but so far incomplete, hierarchy of the Sith Lords, which was a significant ongoing part of my research before joining the Resistance."
- ―Beaumont Kin, The Rise and Fall of the Galactic Empire
The Arcane Library was a library located within the Sith Citadel, a Sith temple used by the Sith Eternal on the planet Exegol. It contained information on a variety of Sith Lords and dark side users including recollections and dictations by the Sith Lord Darth Sidious. After the Battle of Exegol in 35 ABY, the Resistance excavated the temple during the Exegol Excavation Project and uncovered information in the library that historian Beaumont Kin cited in his book The Rise and Fall of the Galactic Empire.
Description[]
- "The excavations on Exegol have found a few references to the group within what appear to be recollections by Palpatine where he states that they had become 'obsolete.'"
- ―Beaumont Kin, The Rise and Fall of the Galactic Empire
The Arcane Library was a library located in the Sith Citadel on the planet Exegol.[1] The ancient citadel was[2] a Sith temple[1] that acted as headquarters of the Sith Eternal and was one of the oldest bastions of the Sith.[2] It contained information concerning a number of Sith Lords, including Darth Plagueis, Darth Maul, Darth Tyranus, and Darth Vader.[1]
The information on Plagueis included scrolls and writings covering his obsession with immortality that had been dictated by his Sith apprentice, Darth Sidious, shortly before the latter's death[1] in 35 ABY,[3] although some of it was defaced. The library also contained material with references to the Force artifact known as the Fermata Cage and recollections by Sidious that referenced the dark side Force users of the Inquisitorius, in which he mentioned them becoming obsolete.[1]
History[]
- "It is only through material recently uncovered on Exegol that we even have an indication that the individual who would become his master was named Darth Plagueis. According to scrolls and writings that appear to have been dictated by Palpatine shortly before his most recent death, Plagueis had spent much of his life as a Sith Lord attempting to discover the secrets of eternal life."
- ―Beaumont Kin, The Rise and Fall of the Galactic Empire
After the Sith Eternal was defeated in the Battle of Exegol[1] in 35 ABY,[3] the Resistance began the Exegol Excavation Project, an excavation of the temple led by historian Beaumont Kin. The project recovered information from the library, creating several sections of documentation on what they discovered. This included files on Vader, Maul, Tyranus, and Plagueis in a "Sith Lords" section, with an Inquisitorius file stored in the "Warriors of the Dark Side" section and the Fermata Cage file stored under "Force Artifacts."[1]
The information from the library helped Kin further construct a hierarchy of the Sith Lords, which had been a major part of[1] his[2] research prior to the project. Although the hierarchy remained incomplete, the new material revealed the existence of Plagueis for the first time as well as Tyranus's apprenticeship to Sidious. Kin later cited the files made on the library's material multiple times in his book The Rise and Fall of the Galactic Empire[1] which was also published in 35 ABY.[4]
Behind the scenes[]
The Arcane Library was mentioned in the 2024 reference book Star Wars: The Rise and Fall of the Galactic Empire, which was written by Dr. Chris Kempshall.[1]

- ↑ Star Wars: The Rise and Fall of the Galactic Empire states that thirty years have passed since the end of the Galactic Civil War and months have passed since the Battle of Exegol. As Star Wars: Timelines dates the end of the war to 5 ABY and the Battle of Exegol to 35 ABY, the in-universe The Rise and Fall of the Galactic Empire must have been published in 35 ABY.
