Guidelines
General guidelines
- A. Definitions
- 1. Production music - any production music used in the show that does not contain lyrics as used in the series. If the piece normally has lyrics, but the lyrics are not used in the series, that piece counts as production music.
- 2. Original music - any music made specifically for the show that does not contain lyrics as used in the series. If the piece normally has lyrics, but the lyrics are not used in the series, that piece counts as original music.
- B. Formatting
- 1. Lists
- a. All production music and original music are to be placed on their respective list page in the format outlined in the guidelines below.
- b. All music on the page is to be sorted in alphabetical order. For pieces that have multiple variations (and designated as such with letters or numbers) shall be placed in subsections of the music piece.
- c. Under each piece of music, the usage is to be listed in episode order. Any usage outside of episodes is to be placed after the list of episodes.
- d. Wherever possible, place the video link in the section heading for pieces that do not have separate pages. This will not be used in the examples below.
- e. "Episode name" is used loosely in the examples below. This can include shorts, films, spin-offs, games, and other media.
- 2. Individual music pages
- a. In order for a piece to have its own page, the piece must have been used in SpongeBob media at least five (5) times. In that case, use the {{main|}} template on the list articles. Do not create an article for pieces that lists less than five (5) uses, even if the list is complete. Once the section on the list expands to five (5) or more, a separate article can be created.
- b. All individual music pages must use the format outlined in the guidelines below that includes an infobox.
- c. Library songs with lyrics are allowed pages, as long as the vocals are heard in SpongeBob media.
- 3. Splitting off certain listings
- a. If there are two or more music pieces that share the same name, but are completely unrelated (such as having a different composer), these pieces should be listed separately.
- b. If the same music piece has multiple variations or segments, they should be listed in the same section (or page, if the piece has one). Exceptions will be made for the following:
- i. If the piece has less than five (5) variants, a variant needs to have at least 30 uses to warrant a separate page.
- ii. If the piece has between five (5) and nine (9) variants, a variant needs to have at least 20 uses to warrant a separate page.
- iii. If the piece has ten (10) or more variants, a variant needs to have at least 10 uses to warrant a separate page.
- C. Disallowed pages
- 1. The following entities do not need their own article unless we discuss otherwise:
- a. Production music and original music used less than five (5) times in SpongeBob media.

- Category:Original music - use these on individual original music pages.
- [[:Category:Music composed by <composer>]] - only use these on individual music pages to organize them by composer.
