The communication policy is about how users communicate with each other as the best ways to do so. Keep discussions in their appropriate place and allow other users and admins to comment.
Communication policy
Off-topic conversations
Off-topic discussions are allowed, but must be kept on the off-topic discussions category. Administrators and discussions moderators reserve the right to remove discussion they deem unnecessary. No more than 15 off topic posts may be created on discussions per day. A day is defined as the 24 hour period preceding the current time. This restriction does not include games threads. Posts which exceed that limit will be removed, and the user who created the thread will be warned or blocked in line with the blocking policy.
Admin responses
If an administrator requests a response from a user regarding an issue, that user must respond to them. If the user makes one (1) or more edits or posts and twenty-four (24) hours have passed since the time of the administrator's message without the user responding, the user in question will be considered to have ignored the message and they may be warned and/or blocked at the discretion of the relevant administrator, depending on the nature of the issue.
Drama
Please do not discuss another wiki's issues on this wiki. Those issues belong on the associated wiki, not on ESB. Other wiki issues can be discussed on Community Central with the appropriate users.
It is also not permitted to forbid someone from messaging you on your message wall. It is any user's right to leave a new message to another user and attempting to stop this is considered to be unnecessary drama creation. Likewise, it is forbidden to have "invite only" threads or blogs, with a blanket ban on contributions from most users, unless the thread in question is a warning thread. This is a public site and users are generally free to contribute in any thread or blog comments section that they wish.
Keep things organized
Don't necropost, which means do not reply to discussion threads, messages on other users' walls, blog posts or comments that haven't been replied to in three (3) months or more without an administrator's permission.
Similarly, take things to the appropriate discussion areas on Discord and Discussions.
Minimodding
Minimodding is not allowed, even as a joke. Below is an example of what constitutes minimodding.
- Not minimodding: "Don't spam, it's against the rules."
- Minimodding: "Stop spamming or I'll block you."
Administrators and discussion moderators reserve the right to remove messages and warn users at their discretion.
Pinging users
Posts and replies on discussions must not "ping" or mention users excessively. Parent posts (not replies) on discussions must not mention any users as a means of direct communication; if a message needs to be directed at a specific user then it can be posted on that user's message wall. However, mentioning one or more users for other purposes--such as letting them know of the post with previously given permission to--is acceptable. Unless responding to another user's statement(s) in an ongoing conversation, a user may not be mentioned in multiple replies.
Warning threads
It is not permitted for a user to reply to a warning thread, unless the user in question is the recipient of the warning, an administrator, a discussion moderator, or any user who has had their input specifically and explicitly requested by an administrator. If none of the above conditions apply, the user may post a separate thread on the warning administrator's message wall if they see the need. Users are not permitted to remove warning threads from their message walls.
