History[]
Past[]
Silver was born 200 years into the future of the Earth. Because the state of the world by this time is always at flux due to the actions of the present, the future often appears dilapilated and dystopian, forcing Silver to traveling back in time to prevent the disasters that led to the ruination of the world,[10][11] relying on the Chaos Emeralds' Chaos Control or on mysterious portals that open when the past is in crisis.[12][13]
Sonic the Hedgehog (2006)[]
Silver first appeared in Sonic the Hedgehog (2006). By this point, the future had been ruined by Iblis long before Silver was born, with people living without hope and in a constant struggle.[14] The white hedgehog would spend his entire life trying to find a way to restore the future accompanied by Blaze the Cat, being stuck in a seemingly endless cycle where he would fight Iblis to save the world but the monster would reappear soon after its defeat.[15] A glimmer of hope came in the form of Mephiles the Dark, a mysterious creature who showed them the supposed origin of Iblis: the Day of Disaster, when the beast was unleashed onto the world and brought ruin to it centuries ago. Through a vision of a Chaos Emerald, Mephiles falsely claimed that the one to blame for this was the "Iblis Trigger": Sonic the Hedgehog. Believing that killing Sonic was the only way to restore the future, Silver let Mephiles take him and Blaze to the past.
Silver then found himself alone in Soleanna Forest in the present timeline, determined to kill Sonic to save the future. That night, he saw the blue hedgehog shortly after the latter's failed attempt to save Princess Elise from Doctor Eggman at the Festival of the Sun. Before he could strike, however, Silver was distracted by Amy, who mistook him for Sonic. Amy offered to help him find the person he was seeking, but Silver was reluctant to accept her help. Eventually, he decided to help Amy in exchange, though neither of them knew they were both seeking the same person: Sonic.
After searching Dusty Desert, Silver located Sonic in Soleanna Castle Town and used his psychokinesis to take Sonic by surprise and throw him into a wall, incapacitating him. Silver wondered if Mephiles was truly right, doubting that someone like Sonic could destroy the future. Sonic attempted to save Elise when Eggman suddenly captured her again, but Silver interfered and was about to finish him when Amy intervened, allowing Sonic to escape. Silver told her of Sonic's role in the coming apocalypse, but Amy chose to believe in Sonic and abandoned Silver. Disheartened, Silver stopped to ponder whether taking a life to save the world was truly the right thing to do.
Silver waited for Blaze in Soleanna New City. He asked her about his moral quandary, and Blaze replied that they had no choice but to act on their current knowledge. After infiltrating Eggman's base in White Acropolis to investigate Sonic (acquiring Elise's blue Chaos Emerald in the process), the duo encountered Mephiles again, who told them that Sonic was at the terminal station. Due to a security lockdown after Elise's capture, Silver was forced to pursue Sonic in Radical Train alone.[16] He attacked Sonic and let Eggman capture Elise once more, but was interrupted by Shadow this time (whom Silver at first mistook for Mephiles), allowing Sonic to escape. The two fought to a standstill, until Shadow used Chaos Control to evade Silver's intended punch and kick him in the head. Desperate to save his future, Silver used his Chaos Emerald to mimic Shadow's Chaos Control, accidentally initiating a Dual Chaos Control that opened a time portal. Shadow was impressed, but suspected Mephiles had darker intentions for the orders he had given Silver. He asked Silver to follow him through time to the day that the Solaris Project went haywire, so they could both discover the truth.
Arriving in the past, Silver and Shadow witnessed the project's failure first hand, with the machine exploding and the Duke of Soleanna being injured protecting a young Elise. The duo split up; Shadow pursued Mephiles while Silver pursued Iblis. Silver cornered Iblis with his psychokinesis and the dying Duke seized this opportunity to use a Chaos Emerald to seal Iblis within the unconscious Elise, entrusting Silver to escort her to safety. Silver carried Elise out of the lab and met with Shadow, who had successfully captured Mephiles. Silver set Elise by a tree while Shadow left the Scepter of Darkness with her, knowing its fate in the future. Together they opened a time portal back to the present, which Shadow immediately jumped through. Silver was about to follow when he heard Elise call for her father in her sleep. Feeling sorry for her, Silver left Elise his blue Chaos Emerald before entering the portal.
Returning to Soleanna New City, Silver revealed to Blaze that Mephiles had lied about Sonic being the Iblis Trigger, and realized that Eggman may intend to release Iblis. Silver and Blaze planned to assist Sonic in rescuing Elise, but instead witnessed Eggman's Egg Carrier crash in the distance, killing both Elise and Eggman. After a moment of grief, Silver suggested using Dual Chaos Control to send Sonic back in time to save Elise, which Sonic accepted. The blue hedgehog then gave Silver his Chaos Emerald, urging him and Blaze to save their future too.
Returning to his future, Silver resolved to seal Iblis in his body using the same ritual he watched the Duke use on Elise in the past. Silver and Blaze then defeated Iblis and he attempted to make himself Iblis' vessel, but his body was rejected. Blaze stepped in to use her body instead, absorbing Iblis and demanding Silver use Chaos Control to stop time and send her to another dimension. Silver could not bring himself to do such a thing, unwilling to part with his friend. Amused by Silver's naivete, Blaze did the deed herself and faded away, leaving Silver in a brighter future but wracked with guilt.
When Mephiles merged with Iblis in the past, Silver was among the individuals transported together in Solaris' dimension. He was the first of the group to suggest using the Chaos Emeralds to fight back, and they all worked together to gather the scattered Emeralds and resurrect Sonic. Silver then joined Sonic and Shadow as Super Silver to defeat Solaris, and Elise extinguished Solaris, erasing the consequences of the Solaris Project but also everyone's memories of the events.[17] What exactly came of Silver's future afterwards is unknown, though it was at least free of Iblis.
Sonic Rivals series[]
Sonic Rivals[]
Silver makes his next appearance in Sonic Rivals. Though Iblis no longer terrorizes his home in the future, Silver again travels back in time to the present. This time he is in pursuit of the interdimensional criminal Eggman Nega, who has stolen a strange camera that can capture people and objects inside of cards. Silver starts his search by confronting Eggman Nega’s ancestor, Dr. Eggman, leading him to the mysterious Onyx Island.
Silver races Sonic, Knuckles, Shadow, and Metal Sonic multiple times in his pursuit of Eggman, hoping to reach him before they can. Silver and the cast are introduced to each other as if for the first time, confirming that they have all forgotten their previous meetings and no longer recognize each other.[18] Over the course of his adventure, Silver begins to suspect that the Eggman he’s been pursuing is actually Eggman Nega in disguise, which is quickly confirmed. While Sonic and Knuckles work with Tails to rescue Amy, Silver and Shadow work with the real Dr. Eggman to stop Nega from capturing the entire planet in a card from space. With Eggman Nega trapped in a card by his own camera, Silver collects the rest of Nega's cards and takes him back to the future, expressing confidence at leaving the past in the hands of Sonic and Shadow.[19]
Sonic Rivals 2[]
Silver returns in the sequel, Sonic Rivals 2. He travels back in time once again to save the world, now hiding Chao from Eggman Nega so that a powerful beast known as the Ifrit cannot use them to reach its full power. Espio begins spying on Silver, on orders from Vector to investigate his Chao-napping. Eventually, he determines that Silver is trustworthy and decides to help him.
Silver and Espio work together to thwart Eggman Nega's plot, butting heads with other characters along the way. At one point, Silver runs into Knuckles; the latter mocks of Silver's belief that saving the Chao could save the world, provoking the two into a fight. In the next zone, Silver becomes extremely exhausted as he has used too much of his ESP power and needs Rings to re-energize, so Espio steals some from Tails for him.
After Silver and Espio defeat the Egg Bull, Eggman Nega boasts that he has collected more than enough Chao inside a mysterious mansion. Silver and Espio frantically search the mansion, but fail to find the secret vault. Silver is distraught as Eggman Nega opens a portal to the Ifrit's dimension, only to learn that all the fodder Chao have thankfully escaped (thanks to Sonic and Tails, unbeknownst to them). Eggman Nega still sends his copy of Metal Sonic to disturb the beast, so Silver races the robot to the Ifrit and is victorious. However, Nega has already awoken the Ifrit, using the race as a distraction to do so. Despite the Ifrit's might, Silver and Espio prove victorious and defeat the beast together. As the portal back home begins closing, Silver and Espio agree to leave Eggman Nega trapped under rubble in the Ifrit's dimension.[20]
Silver also appears on collectible cards:

Sonic Colors[]
In the Nintendo DS version of Sonic Colors, Silver runs into Sonic and Tails while visiting Sweet Mountain. When Tails reads a sign claiming that Sweet Mountain is the "future," Silver laughs and says that the future is nothing like it, but is in fact even happier. Silver then challenges Sonic to rescue 20 Wisps, serving as Mission 2. When he succeeds, Silver asks if he needs any help, but Sonic assures him that he can handle it on his own.
Silver decides to go on one of the amusement park rides with Blaze, until they are interrupted by Orbot and Cubot. They scare away the robots by combining their psychokinesis and pyrokinesis. The two then become wary of the ride, and Sonic offers to check it out for them as Mission 3. Afterwards, they thank Sonic for his help and claim they just jumped to a conclusion. In a conversation only viewed by getting an S Rank in Mission 3 twice, Silver points out that he feels an odd connection to Blaze, and Tails suggests that the two may have paired up sometime before.
Sonic Generations[]
In Sonic Generations, Silver found himself adrift in White Space due to the tampering of the Time Eater. Holding the white Chaos Emerald, he once again crossed paths with Sonic, who was on a journey with his younger self to restore the shattered world. Suspicious that Sonic was an imposter trying to steal the Chaos Emeralds, Silver refused to relinquish it and instead challenged him for it. In the console/PC version of the game, Silver had a high-speed fight with Sonic on a circuit road in Crisis City, whereas in the Nintendo 3DS version, Silver challenged Sonic to a foot-race in Tropical Resort instead. He ultimately lost the encounter, convincing him that Sonic was real and could be trusted with the Emerald.
Silver returned along with the rest of the cast to cheer on the two Sonics in defeating the Time Eater. Upon the monster's defeat, Silver ended up back in the present with everybody else, where he stuck around for the remainder of Sonic's birthday party before waving goodbye to the younger Sonic and Tails as they returned to the past.
Sonic Forces[]
In Sonic Forces, as a result of Dr. Eggman's world domination, Silver's time was once more thrown into chaos with facing another grim fate. With little historical records to explain what had happened this time, Silver went back to the past to prevent the catastrophe from happening. There, he met Knuckles on Angel Island, and tried to warn him about the coming disaster. At first, Knuckles dismissed Silver's warning as a dream, only for Angel Island to be replaced by the village of Pachacamac. Almost immediately after, a suddenly aggressive Chaos appeared and attacked the two. Though they beat Chaos, the beast suddenly disappeared. After Silver explained to Knuckles his reason for being there, the two flew down to the surface to spread the word.[21]
Silver's warning soon came true: after Dr. Eggman defeated (and seemingly killed) Sonic the Hedgehog, the doctor began conquering the world with his Eggman Army. To counter the Eggman Empire, Silver and his friends formed a rag-tag freedom fighting group called the Resistance. However, the group could not do much against the Eggman Empire, who eventually conquered over 99% of the planet.
After six months of warfare, the Resistance met up at their headquarters to discuss the low morale among the people without Sonic to give them hope. Not giving in, Silver urged his comrades to give the people hope and not despair. Not long after, Silver was introduced to the Resistance's newest recruit: the Avatar. After this, Silver learned from Knuckles that Sonic was not dead, but imprisoned onboard Eggman's newly rebuilt Death Egg. Needing a shuttle to reach Sonic, Silver and a squad of soldiers that included the Chaotix broke into the Spaceport in the Chemical Plant and stole a shuttle. Silver soon learned from Rouge, however, that Eggman was moving Sonic's execution forward after catching wind of their rescue. Silver and his allies thus hurried to the Death Egg, only to be slowed down by the enemies onboard the space station. Luckily, the Avatar found Sonic and got him back home.
While in the Mystic Jungle assisting Resistance forces there, Silver met the masked menace who defeated Sonic. He engaged him in battle, but was defeated and nearly killed. Luckily, Sonic arrived in time to block his final attack. The masked one introduced himself as Infinite and fought Sonic instead, leaving Silver be. Although Infinite left after beating Sonic, both hedgehogs spent some time healing afterward. While recuperating, Silver observed the evacuation efforts of the City after Eggman's army invaded it. Later on, Rouge detected some readings in Mystic Jungle, to which Silver believed was just more of Eggman's robots. After his hunch got disproved and the Avatar went to investigate them, Silver feared that the Avatar was heading into danger.
The Avatar soon returned with Tails and Classic Sonic (who had been brought to Silver's dimension by Eggman's new power) in tow. There, Tails told Silver and the others that Eggman would execute a plan in three days to destroy them all. Vector then interrupted, saying that Shadow and an army of mass-produced Death Egg Robots were attacking the City. While Silver thought that Shadow was siding with Eggman due to the influence of Infinite's strange power, Sonic went ahead to see what was going on. While there, Silver told Sonic via radio that they would keep the robot army in check while he looked for Shadow. In the meantime, Knuckles learned that Eggman was undermanned at Metropolis and planned a attack called Operation Big Wave to take the city. Silver himself joined the assault and although the plan was working at first, Infinite made them to retreat after casting the invasion army into chaos with his Phantom Ruby prototype's power.
In the aftermath, Silver and the Resistance learned from the real Shadow that the familiar faces in Eggman's army were Phantom Copies created by Infinite. Not long after, Silver and the Resistance launched a plan to destroy the Death Egg, the power supply for Eggman's Phantom Rubies, in order to shut these weapons down. When the Avatar later attacked Guardian Rock to distract the Eggman Army as a part of their plan, Silver urged the Avatar to focus on their task and leave capturing the Chemical Plant to them. As planned, the Avatar's distraction allowed the Resistance to destroy the Death Egg, whose destruction Silver observed from the Resistance HQ. However, the Resistance discovered that Eggman had a backup reactor for his Phantom Rubies underneath the Eggman Empire Fortress. Despite that new knowledge, they were able to capture Eggman's headquarters of Metropolis and set their sights on his last stronghold in the Eggman Empire Fortress.
With less than an hour before Eggman put his endgame into effect, Silver and the Resistance launched one final attack on Eggman's tower at the fortress in hopes of stopping the Phantom Rubies. As they fought their way through the army of Phantom Copies, E-123 Omega came to their rescue when Infinite got ready to finish them off. It was then, however, that Infinite launched Eggman's endgame: using his Phantom Ruby, he got ready to drop a virtual sun on the Resistance and kill them all. Fortunately, the Avatar was able to neutralize Infinite's sun in the last second using a Phantom Ruby prototype. This allowed Silver and the rest to resume the fight on the battlefield while Sonic and the Avatar destroyed Infinite and the Phantom Rubies' reactor. Eggman, however, had foreseen this and his used his original Phantom Ruby in conjunction with his Death Egg Robot to create thousands of Phantom Copies to overwhelm Silver and the rest with. Fortunately, Sonic, the Avatar and Classic Sonic beat Eggman and destroyed his robot, which made the Phantom Copy army vanish and left the Resistance as the victors.
After watching Classic Sonic return to the past now that the Phantom Ruby was gone, Silver and his friends followed Sonic's example and set out to rid the world of all traces of Eggman's reign. At a last meeting in the HQ, Knuckles disbanded the Resistance as the Avatar announced their departure. Silver, however, reminded Knuckles that they still had a lot to do. The friends then agreed with Tails that even though they were going back to their old lives, they would be friends forever and keep working together to restore the world.
Team Sonic Racing[]
In Team Sonic Racing, Silver received a vague invitation to a Grand Prix in Sonic's time. Traveling back in time to Sonic's era, Silver eventually met Blaze, who had received the same invitation as him, and Vector, who had come to the Grand Prix as per the request of his "sources". Soon after, they trio met the person behind the invitations: a Tanuki called Dodon Pa. After Dodon Pa persuaded Vector to participate in his Grand Prix with the Grand Prix's cash prize, Silver and Blaze agreed to join Vector's team in order to bail him out when trouble arrived, which Silver knew would eventually arrive.
For the races, Silver received the Lightron to race in. After a couple of races with Team Sonic and Team Rose, Silver met up with Team Sonic and told them of the invitation that made him come to their era. Hearing that Dodon Pa had the tech to send objects through space and time, the group realized that Dodon Pa held a lot of power. Not long after that, Silver and his team were joined in the competition by Team Dark and Team Eggman.
While waiting for the next race, Silver and his team were radioed by Tails, who instructed them to join Team Sonic and Team Dark on the racetrack in order to help them take down Dr. Eggman, who had intruded on the two teams' race in order to compete against them on his own as a "special guest" (which Dodon Pa permitted despite knowing it was a lie). As his teammates headed out for their own reasons, Silver noted that all he himself wanted was a "peaceful tomorrow". On the racetrack, Silver helped get Blaze into position using the Skim Boost. He then joined forces with the rest of Team Vector, Knuckles, Tails, Rouge, Omega and Team Rose. Together, they surrounded Eggman on the racetrack before delivering a massive beatdown on the doctor with their combined Wisp power-ups. However, Dodon Pa was too busy watching Eggman's beating to see who crossed the finish line first.[22]
Some time after, Silver saw Dr. Eggman and Dodon Pa talk with each other about an engine, leading him to alert the other racers that Dodon Pa and Eggman were working together. Although the heroes wanted to stop them, they knew nothing about what the pair was up to; all they could do for now was keep racing. Not long after, Silver got an unexplainable feeling that something bad was going to happen. This distracted him between the races, especially when Sonic tried to trash talk with him and when Blaze tried to praise him. His dialogue with Sonic (in the Japanese version) is especially interesting, as Sonic recites a quote that Silver said in Sonic the Hedgehog (2006) much to his confusion, indicating that Sonic does recall some of that adventure while Silver does not.[23][24] This dialogue was changed in the English version.
Eventually, Blaze got Silver to tell her what he had on his mind. While Silver doubted his intuition, Blaze trusted it and assured him that they would be able to handle it. Unable to shake off his bad feeling, Silver eventually asked Omochao for a way to observe the whole track they would be racing on next so that he could keep an eye out for something wrong. In response, Omochao told Silver to watch the Chao on the stands, as they would surely react if they saw something wrong. Omochao's advice turned out to work, as the Chao soon saw that Zavok was present at the Grand Prix. Soon after, it was revealed to Silver and everyone else that Dodon Pa was a good guy and that he was using the Grand Prix to gather information for his corporation's Ultimate Energy Engine, which Dodon Pa wanted to use for philanthropic purposes. Still unable to shake off his bad feeling though, Silver confronted Dr. Eggman and learned that he was after the Ultimate Energy Engine and that he had hired Zavok to steal it.
Soon after, the heroes learned from Big that Eggman had kidnapped Dodon Pa and brought him to the Final Fortress. Wanting to rescue Dodon Pa, Silver and co. went to the Final Fortress. There, Eggman had them compete in a number of races with Team Eggman and his army of Eggpawns in exchange for Dodon Pa, not knowing Eggman was using them to gather the Ultimate Team Energy needed to finish the Ultimate Energy Engine. Once the engine was complete, Eggman stole it from Dodon Pa and incorporated it into his Death Egg. Silver and his crew subsequently faced the Death Egg, and beat it in a race. However, the Death Egg soon after went crazy and drove into the Final Fortress' core. As the Final Fortress crashed, Silver and his companions were forced to abandon their cars and evacuate the airship while Team Sonic saved Dodon Pa. Down on the ground, Silver was reunited with Team Sonic when they arrived with Dodon Pa. Just as the Grand Prix seemed over since the cars had been destroyed when the Final Fortress crashed, Dodon Pa decided to give everyone new cars, thus allowing Silver and his friends to race once more.

After the two hedgehogs were defeated, they admitted that they had fun and that they would meet again at the stadium. When a dense and colored fog later appeared on London Bridge, Silver and Shadow met Sonic, Tails, and Yoshi. Soon after, Jet flew overhead. After the group cornered Jet, they convinced him to show them where the local Fog Machine was on the bridge. When everyone got to the Fog Machine however, Bowser Jr. appeared, who was protecting the machine. Silver, Shadow and Yoshi managed to defeat him however. Shadow subsequently destroy the Fog Machine, which made the fog disappear and causing the bridge to be lowered. After Bowser Jr. then fled the scene, Silver's group decided to split up and explore the other foggy areas in London. Some time after however, the fog returned, except now more intense, to London. In response, Silver, Shadow, Jet and Yoshi cleared the London Bridge of the fog, which the group later reported back to Sonic and Mario about to support them during their showdown with the masterminds behind the fog: Dr. Eggman and Bowser.
