King Solomon (ソロモン王 Soromon-ō?) is a character that appears in Sonic and the Secret Rings. He is one of the kings in the world of the Arabian Nights and apparently the one who sealed away creatures like the Ifrit Golem in ancient times.

Appearance[]

King Solomon is a tall humanoid resembling a skeleton. He has glowing eyes within his skull, a curled green beard, and two long strands of hair curling from either side of his head. He wears a regal purple robe with a white mantle on top, which leaves his ribcage exposed. He also wears a purple headdress resembling a papal mitre, and has a staff made of curled wood with a green jewel.

History[]

Past[]

Long before the events of Sonic and the Secret Rings, King Solomon sealed away many evil spirits, such as the Ifrit Golem. This angered the spirits, who would eventually choose to join forces with Erazor Djinn to get revenge on Solomon and the rest of the world.

King Solomon before restored.

After Erazor served his sentence and escaped containment, he sent the Forty Thieves and other spirits to kill King Solomon, who posed a threat to his plans. Solomon survived the attack, but his skeletal body was scattered throughout the Skeleton Dome. When Sonic and Shahra arrived, he had them recover his body and eliminate the Forty Thieves in return for advice on how to defeat Erazor. He was especially intrigued by Sonic, whom he could tell had been cursed. After being restored, Solomon told Sonic and Shahra of how to unlock Erazor's palace. Though Sonic assured he would take care of Erazor as he and Shahra left, Solomon remained concerned, as he could sense "death approaching."

King Solomon also appears in Party Mode, in the background of the mini-game Thrust! Bone Knight.

Quotes[]

  • "Indeed! I am the great and powerful King Solomon!"
  • "Don't think I'm happy looking this way either! The Erazor Djinn did this to me! He resurrected the 40 thieves as evil spirits and sent them to attack me here."

Trivia[]

  • King Solomon is based on a person mentioned several times in the Arabian Nights, though he predates the book. Solomon (or Sulaimān) was a king of ancient Israel, described in both the Bible and the Quran. He was said to have sealed away many djinn and demons using a ring or staff given to him by God. Concept art shows King Solomon owns a similar staff.
    • Solomon also has hair locks on his sideburns, which is a cultural attribute to certain branches of Judaism. Earlier concept art shows him with a six-pointed star on his clothing, resembling the Star of David of Judaism.
  • Solomon is the only character in Sonic and the Secret Rings that is neither a djinn nor an alternate version of a person from Sonic's world.
