The Guided Boomerang[1] is a technique that appears in the Sonic Boom series. It is move used by Sticks the Badger where she throws her Boomerang and guides it through midair.

Description[]

When performing Guided Boomerang, Sticks charges up her Boomerang before throwing it. She is then somehow able to guide it in various directions.

In gameplay, the Guided Boomerang lets the player manually control the flight of Sticks' Boomerang when it is thrown, making it possible to steer it in any direction. However, it can only stay in flight for a limited time before returning to Sticks. The Boomerang will also return to Sticks when hitting a wall or a Boomerang Switch.

Guided Boomerang is mainly used for puzzle-solving by breaking out-of-reach Boomerang Switches, but it can also be used to damage enemies, both close-up and from afar. While flying, the Guided Boomerang can also pick up Rings and items contained in capsules.

Game appearances[]

Sonic Boom: Shattered Crystal[]

The Guided Boomerang first appeared in Sonic Boom: Shattered Crystal as Sticks the Badger's character-exclusive move. In this game, it deals the same amount of damage as a Homing Attack or Bomb.[2] There is also a limit to how long the Guided Boomerang can stay in flight, which is shown by a gauge in the upper right corner of the screen that drains while the Boomerang flies. Should the gauge empty, the Boomerang will return to Sticks.

To perform this move in gameplay, tap Snnwiidsxbuttondisco to throw the Boomerang a short distance or hold it to keep it in flight. The direction the Boomerang is thrown in is determined by the direction the Circle Pad is slid in when pressing Snnwiidsxbuttondisco. When keeping the Boomerang in flight, the player can control its flight path with the Circle Pad.

Sonic Boom: Fire & Ice[]

In Sonic Boom: Fire & Ice, the Guided Boomerang serves again as a primary part of Sticks the Badger's moveset. In this game, having Fire Mode and Ice Mode active while using the Guided Boomerang allows it to freeze water blocks, thaw ice blocks and ignite wicks while in flight. It will also leave a colored trail matching the elemental move currently in use. Also, by forming a loop with the Boomerang in midair, it creates an explosion of fire/ice that damages all enemies within said loop. Like in Sonic Boom: Shattered Crystal, the Boomerang can only travel a limited distance before disengaging, although this limit is not displayed in any way.

To perform Guided Boomerang in gameplay, tap Snnwiidsxbuttondisco to throw the Boomerang a short distance or hold it to keep it in flight. The Boomerang's direction when thrown is determined by the direction the Circle Pad is slid in when pressing Snnwiidsxbuttondisco. When keeping the Boomerang in flight, control its flight path with the Circle Pad.
