Hip[1] and Hop[1] are characters that appear in the Sonic the Hedgehog series. They are a pair of kangaroos who reside in the Veg-O-Fortress' Lava Powerhouse.
Appearance[]
Hip and Hop are a pair of identical anthropomorphic Kangaroos with blue fur and orange-rimmed mouths. For attire, they wear white gloves and long black and white shoes.
Overview[]
In the 16-bit version and 8-bit version of Sonic Spinball, Hip and Hop are found in Lava Powerhouse where they hop on each side of a bellow machine. When the player starts the Stage or after they get knocked off to the side, Hip or Hop will do a medium leap on their bellow machine and blow Sonic back on the pinball table with a hot steam pillar.

In Sonic the Hedgehog comic series and its spin-offs published by Archie Comics, Hip and Hop were first seen escaping from Dr. Robotnik's Veg-O-Fortress. Years later, they became judges for the Republic of Acorn.
Trivia[]
- Hip and Hop's names were not mentioned in their games, though the words "Hip Hop" are displayed when Sonic interacts with them in Sonic Spinball. Instead, they were first mentioned as the names for their counterparts in the Sonic the Hedgehog comics published by Archie Comics.
- Eventually, their names would be confirmed to be the same as their comic counterparts in Sonic the Hedgehog Encyclo-speed-ia.
- Hip and Hop's names are a reference to the musical genre, Hip hop.
