The Forgotten Tribe Part Three of Three: Journey's End[]

Synopsis[]

With Yanar about to be hanged by the High Sheriff, Knuckles, Sonic, Tails, Mari-An, and Rob O' the Hedge attempt to rescue him. Rob fires an arrow at the rope just before the trapdoor opens and Sonic catches Yanar, while Mari-An frees and leads the Lost Tribe of Echidnas to safety and Knuckles and Tails battle the sheriff and the executioner. The heroes are overcome by the High Sheriff's lackeys and Rob creates a diversion by firing flaming arrows and starting a fire, while Knuckles leads the others to safety. Rob then stumbles upon some explosives and uses a flaming arrow to blow them up along with the castle. Rob makes it out alive and finds Mari-An's brothers while returning to the others.

Meanwhile, Locke, Sabre, Archimedes and Deo Volente overlook Hawking's condition, with Locke stating that he cannot pull through on his own. He finds it ironic that the Echidna society went to war over the use of technology like Hawking's, which he needs to take another breath. Deo disagrees, saying the Echidna society went to war because of the Dark Legion being selfish and abusing that technology. Locke then receives a transmission from Constable Remington with his latest report, saying the Chaotix have accepted their new assignment reluctantly because of Julie-Su. Remington also says that Locke's ex-wife Lara-Le had visited him again asking to see Locke, and wants to know what his answer is. Locke simply says he'll contact her soon.

Back with the Echidnas, Sonic and Tails head back home after Tails found their bi-plane, and Yanar informs Knuckles that he has had a vision of a city to stagger the imagination and reveals that Rob knows where it is. He says his vision showed a white cliff overlooking a beach and insists that Knuckles ask Rob if he knows of such a place. Knuckles asks Rob, and he falls into some kind of trance and walks away towards the white cliff overlooking a beach, with the city Yanar saw in the distance. Rob reveals that he has been acting as a sentry and has always stood watch over the city to keep out those who are not worthy. Yanar says that a leap of faith by Knuckles will allow him and the others to walk across the water to Albion.

All the echidnas except Mari-An, who wishes to remain with Rob, go to Albion and are greeted by Gala-Na. She reveals the past of the Echidnas to Knuckles and how they were far more advanced than any other species. Their ancestors, in their wisdom, decided to seclude themselves from the savagery of the rest of the world. However, due to echidna nature wanting to reach higher levels of achievement, some left Albion and eventually created Echidnaopolis in Downunda. She then tells all of the echidnas to reclaim what is theirs and come live in the sanctuary of Albion.

Knuckles, however, wishes to go back to his home, the Angel Island. Yanar then says that Knuckles' great-grandfather must know him well, for he gave Yanar a Guiding Star Gem to lead Knuckles back home. Knuckles takes the gem and then disappears home in a bright light.

Trivia[]

  • Curiously, in the original color guides for this story, the Roboticized Armand D'Coolette is colored brown to resemble his organic Mobian appearance.[1]
    • Said color guide also depicts Bodo wearing a gray cloak, consistent with the color he wore in Sonic the Hedgehog #58. Despite this, the finalized colors for the story depict Bodo with a dark green cloak, creating an inconsistency.[1]
