Cultural References[]

• The title of the episode is a reference to the classic novel and film Double Indemnity, as well as the clause of the same name in an insurance policy.
• This episode was originally to be titled "Mutual of Momaha," a reference to the insurance company, "Mutual of Omaha."
• The song that plays during the montage of Moe and Renee dating is the 1966 song "I'm a Believer" by The Monkees (written by Neil Diamond).
• The song Homer sings, "Stealing, stealing, stealing a car for Moe" is sung to the tune of "Sailing, Sailing (Over The Bounding Main)."
• The movie in the drive-in theater (Hail to the Chimp) has a scene of the monkey President jumping out of Air Force One. This is a reference to the movie Air Force One, where the President of the United States, played by Harrison Ford, is hoisted from the plane after it is shot down.
• The shot of Homer watching the drive-in movie with the train passing in the background is a reference to Hotshot Eastbound, a photograph taken by O. Winston Link in 1956.
• Homer's ghost resembled Jacob Marley from the Dickens novel A Christmas Carol.
• The prison book cart leading to an escape is reminiscent of the novel/film The Shawshank Redemption.
• The song that plays at the end of the episode is "One Bourbon, One Scotch, One Beer" by George Thorogood and The Destroyers.
• Renee’s voice actor (Helen Hunt) married Moe’s voice actor (Hank Azaria) a year after this episode aired.

Goofs[]

• At the dance club, Luanne van Houten is shown with light brown hair instead of blue. It could be a wig or a dye job, most likely a dye job for the hair and fake or drawn-on eyebrows since "A Milhouse Divided" revealed that Luann doesn't want anyone to know she has no eyebrows. Considering that Luann van Houten was more of a free spirit when she divorced Kirk, this isn't too out of character.

• When the chimpanzee jumps from the plane in the movie Hail to the Chimp, the top section of his tie is not colored in for a frame.
• If Homer missed the train crashing into Moe's car, then he could still leave the car on the rails for another train to crash into it.
  • It is possible that Homer thought there would be no next train before Moe would have found his car.
• The daisy on Moe’s car has five petals as it is driven off the cliff, yet has six petals when it bubbles up to the surface.
• Even though Moe's Tavern gets burned in this episode, it is seen normal again for the rest of the series. The fire department could've went to the tavern to put out the fire, so that Moe could go back.
• Chief Wiggum and his cops didn't search for Homer after he escaped from jail and Homer didn't get arrested again for escaping from prison and hitting Hans Moleman to steal his book cart to escape. Springfield Police aren't known for their intelligence.
