Georg Michaelis (8 September 1857 – 24 July 24 1936) became the first Chancellor of Germany with a non-noble background.
Early life
[change | change source]Michaelis was born at Haynau in Silesia. He studied law in Breslau, Leipzig and Wurzburg. He graduated from Göttingen University in 1884.[1]
Career
[change | change source]He was invited by the Japanese government to teach at the German school of law in Tokyo from 1885 to 1889.[1]
When he returned to Germany, he joined the civil service. The Emperor appointed him Reich Chancellor (Reichskanzler) from July to November 1917.[1]
