NOTE: This article explicitly details the original version of Simba, as the 2019 live action version was not voted as a Shonen Hero. |
Simba is the titular main protagonist of The Lion King franchise.
In the films, he was voiced by Jonathan Taylor Thomas (Jason Weaver, singing) as a cub and Matthew Broderick as an adolescent and as an adult, who also voiced Despereaux Tilling from The Tale of Despereaux, (Joseph Williams and Cam Clarke, singing). In The Lion Guard, he is voiced by Rob Lowe.
What Makes Him a Shonen Hero?[]
- Heroic/Honorable: Simba freed the entirety of Pride Rock from his uncle Scar's incompetent and tyrannical reign and chose to spare Scar despite the fact he killed his father and that earlier he said he wanted to tear him apart.
- Courageous/Reckless: While he initially refused to take back Pride Rock, after being convinced by Nala, Rafiki, and his father's spirit, Simba refused to back down from doing so. In addition, he was overall reckless as a child.
- Energetic: When he was a cub, Simba was rather excitable and adventurous. While he eventually lost some of his youthful energy after Mufasa's death, Simba still has his playful and fun-loving moments.
- Stubborn: As a child, despite everyone's protests, Simba still went to the elephant graveyard and nearly lost his life as a result.
- Pursues a Big-End Goal: After finding out about Scar's treachery, Simba made it his goal to take Pride Rock back from his uncle and avenge his father.
- Optimistic: Despite Timon and Pumbaa's cynicism, Simba was overall confident that he would succeed in taking back Pride Rock.
- Believes in the Power of Friendship: Simba has shown very great care for his friends and even expressed concern when they decided to join his quest in taking back Pride Rock.
- Possesses Plot Armor: Simba was saved by Mufasa from stumbled by a stampede of wildebeests.
- Short-Tempered: While usually calm, Simba has a noticeable tendency to lose his temper as a child. This does not retract into his adulthood, as in the original movie he asked Scar for a reason not to "tear him apart".
- Big Eater: Simba has been shown to have eaten a gigantic amount of snails in The Lion King 1½.
- Has an Idol: As a child, he looks up to his father Mufasa and wants to be a great king like him.
