Menelaus was a legendary king of Sparta, and a hero of the Trojan War. He was the first husband of Helen of Troy, and the younger brother of Agamemnon, king of Mycenae.

Menelaus was briefly mentioned by Annabeth Chase when she explained Katoptris' history to Piper: he was the first husband of Helen of Troy, and had given her a dagger as a wedding present, which she named "Katoptris" (mirror, looking glass).
