"Randall's Reform" is the twentieth episode of the first season of Recess, which was first broadcast on November 15th, 1997.

Plot[]

Summary[]

Loneliness compels Randall to want to make friends with the other kids. T.J. and the gang finally accept Randall.

Main Story[]

Randall once again tattles on the Recess gang when they attempt to steal a ball from the ball cart. Everyone is passed bad or defective ones while Randall gets the best one, though no one refuses to play with him and he ends up hitting himself in the nose with it. Jealous of T.J.'s popularity, he frames him for a misdemeanor, which simply consists of a note reading "I did it - T.J." and gets him sent to the wall. Randall confronts T.J. and breaks down, admitting that he wishes he was more like him. Intrigued, T.J. agrees to be friends with him on the condition that he stop tattling on them, though the rest of the gang thinks this is a bad idea.

When other kids refuse to play with him, Randall finally decides to be more open with the Gang and takes them to a secret room where they keep more balls and helps them release them among the students. Miss Finster holds them up and demands that Randall confess to who let the balls out, but he covers and claims that he was tying his shoe when it happened. The Gang congratulate Randall, but when Miss Finster is giving out balls again, she gives the best one to her new assistant Douglas. Randall is upset over being replaced and T.J. admits that he should go back to her. Randall does so before letting the Gang take the blame for the balls. The Gang wonder why Randall would turn his back on them again, but T.J. slyly acknowledges that he is happy again.

Goofs[]

  • Animation/consistency error: When Randall raises his hand for Miss Finster to give him "the good ball", his forehead appears to be bigger than usual.
  • Dialogue error: When Miss Finster asks Randall to give out the names of the ball thieves in alphabetical order by last name, he begins with "Detweiler, T.J.". However, he should have begun with "Blumberg, Mikey". Either this may have been intentional for dramatic purposes, or Mikey's last name had not been in use yet (It would not be revealed until the second season).
  • Lip-syncing error: When Randall says, "Okay, let's go", his lip-syncing is off.
  • Continuity/animation error: At the beginning of the episode, the "good ball" is a kickball/dodgeball. Later in the episode, it is replaced with a basketball.
  • Animation/continuity error: When Vince is trying to open the door to the ball room, T.J.'s eye highlights are missing.
  • Animation/continuity/coloring error: When Randall takes a big deep breath before he yells out for Miss Finster, his eyebrows are auburn. The same error happens when Randall says, "No way, I'm staying here. I'm going to be one of the gang if it kills me."
  • Coloring/continuity error: When Randall says "I wish" twice before he actually says that he wishes he was T.J., his hair color is lighter and more orange than usual.
