Elder Toguro is a major antagonist of the Yu Yu Hakusho series, serving as one of the two secondary antagonists (alongside his brother) of the Rescue Yukina arc in the Spirit Detective Saga, the secondary antagonist of the Dark Tournament Saga and a major antagonist of the Chapter Black Saga.

He was voiced by Katsumi Suzuki in the Japanese version and Bill Townsley in the English dub.

What Makes Him Pure Evil?[]

• While he built the dojo together with his brother and Genkai where they trained their pupils, he doesn't seem to be affected at all by their deaths (unlike his brother), as he never mentions it.
• After winning the original Dark Tournament, he gave up his own humanity to become a demon.
  • While both brothers had the same wish, Elder Toguro, unlike his brother, completely discarded any and all sense of honor and morality he may have had prior to becoming a demon.
• Defeated Bui and Karasu alongside his brother and forced them to join Team Toguro on the condition that if they become strong enough, they can try to get revenge.
• Alongside his brother, he becomes a leader of a mercenary demon group called Appartion Gang, which specialized in capturing, selling and torturing demons.
• He killed Yukina's two beloved bluebirds to force her to cry pearl tears for Gonzo Tarukane.
• Alongside his brother, he was secretly working against Tarukane for Sakyo in order to get Gonzo to gamble all his money away and also for Sakyo to summon a demon portal that would likely lead to thousands of deaths.
• During the Dark Tournament, he killed Momorenjya from Team Gorenja, and told the remaining two members to beg for their lives, claiming that he will let one of them go. As Aorenjya begs for mercy and Akarenjya refuses to do so, he simply kills them both.
  • He also tells Akarenjya that Younger Toguro would probably like to recruit him to the team, but Elder Toguro kills him anyway, saying that Younger Toguro isn't there and he himself hates keeping promises.
• During the fight with Kuwabara, he brutalizes him and sadistically reveals to him that Younger Toguro killed Genkai, even making a puppet of Genkai out of his body to show the murder. This action was so cruel that even his brother and Sakyo ware disgusted by his actions.
• He offered his brother to be his weapon to cheat in his fight against Yusuke, which his younger brother saw as highly offensive and then disrespected the memory of Genkai in front of him, making disgusting sexual remarks about her.
• He doesn't care about his brother, only following him because of his power, as when Younger Toguro kicks him, disgusted by Elder's lack of honor, especially when he immediately tried to kill him.
• After being blown to pieces by his brother, he joins Shinobu Sensui in another attempt to summon a demon portal to overrun the world.
• After being eaten by Sadao "Gourmet" Makihara, a teenager who had the power to absorb others' powers, he starts killing him from the inside by slowly eating him and forcing him to torture himself. While Gourmet was willing to help Sensui in his plans, he was nowhere near deserving of that kind of fate and Toguro took sadistic enjoyment out of killing him.
• As Gourmet, he eats the mind reader Shigeru Murota, who had helped Yusuke and his friends, just so he can get his powers.
• He kidnaps Kuwabara and plans to eat him in order to obtain his Dimension Sword and cut open the Demon World Barrier.
• He sadistically reveals what he did to Gourmet and Murota to Yusuke and his allies and attempts to kill Kurama along with taking his power to himself.
• While he has a few comedic moments, they're played in a very dark tone and don’t detract from any of his actions. Nevertheless, these moments just show how heartless he is.
• While his ultimate fate of being trapped in the Sinning Tree in constant pain, locked within a hallucination of his worst nightmares and being stuck in that state forever thanks to his regenerating powers is horrific, it's also played for satisfaction, as even Kurama remarks that after everything he's done, he deserves this fate.

• Elder Toguro is one of the four Yu Yu Hakusho villains to be Pure Evil, alongside Rando, Gonzo Tarukane and Chikou.
