Kazuma Kuwabara is one of the main protagonists of the YuYu Hakusho series.
He is the rival turned best friend of Yusuke Urameshi, who assists him when he becomes a Spirit Detective.
He is voiced by Shigeru Chiba in Japanese, and Christopher R. Sabat in English, who also voiced Piccolo and Alex Louis Armstrong.

What Makes Him Close to Being Pure Good?[]
In General[]
- He is extremely honorable and loyal and is the kindest member of Team Urameshi.
- While not as admirable as Yusuke, he lacks the gifted power and training he has, being at best comparable to team Urameshi (With the exception of Genkai) without the use of their most powerful techniques in the first three sagas, so he shouldn’t be completely compared to him.
Spirit Detective Saga[]
- Even when he was simply a delinquent, he refused to fight anyone weaker than himself.
- Despite them only being rivals at the time, he breaks down and cries over Yusuke’s death at his funeral, which becomes one of the main reasons Yusuke regains the will to live and decides to come back to life.
- He and his gang save Keiko from a gang of thugs.
- When a teacher forces him and his gang to not fight anyone or else his friend Okubo will lose his job, which he needs to support his poor family, he lets himself get beaten up by thugs without fighting back so Okubo doesn’t lose his job.
- He saves Keiko when she is trapped in Yusuke’s burning apartment.
- When Rando almost drowns Yusuke, he saves him by transferring his spirit energy into him, and goads him so that he’s motivated to defeat Rando.
- He goes with Yusuke, Kurama, and Hiei to help them stop the Saint Beasts from turning all humans into zombies.
- When Yusuke almost dies after defeating Suzaku, he again saves him by transferring his spirit energy into him.
- Alongside Yusuke and Botan, he saves Yukina from the Toguro Brothers.
Dark Tournament Saga[]
- He refuses to fight Team Ichigaki when he realizes they are being mind controlled against their will.
- While he did hit Yusuke, it out trying to give him every determination to face Toguro, due to the dangers of losing his friend's life.
- In order for Yusuke to gain the power he needed to defeat Toguro, he tries to sacrifice his life and plays dead when Toguro attacks him.
Chapter Black Saga[]
- Despite his power not coming back yet, he still goes with the heroes to help them stop Sensui’s genocide against humanity.
- He saves his gang from Mitarai, and decides to spare his life despite him trying to kill his friends, which leads to Mitarai redeeming himself and becoming an ally to the heroes.
Three Kings Saga[]
- While he was enraged when Yusuke, Kurama and Hiei decide to go the Demon World, he calms down and supports their decision.
- He happily attends the wedding of Kurama's mother and stepfather.
What Prevents Him From Being Pure Good?[]
- He can tend to be mischievous or jerkish at times.
- He can be lethal when fighting against demons.
Trivia[]
- He and Yusuke Urameshi are the only Yu Yu Hakusho characters to be Near Pure Good.
