Mushroom Kingdom: Rainbow Cruise (Rainbow Ride in European versions) is a traveling stage in the Super Smash Bros. series that debuted Super Smash Bros. Melee. It is based on the world Rainbow Ride in Super Mario 64 and Super Mario 64 DS. It returned in Super Smash Bros. Brawl and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.

Stage Features[]

Rainbowride

The stage originally starts on a floating ship heading left with a mast with two thin platforms. After a while, the boat reaches the first set of platforms in an obstacle course. The camera moves along the course forcing the players to move as they fight. Parts of the stage disappear as they go offscreen causing the player to fall to their death.

The first set of platforms start with a vertical climb with thin platforms. There are flying carpets soon after which players can ride but, disappear if a player goes off it for too long. Most of them eventually go off-screen as well. Once the players reach the top of the screen, there are several swing platforms. The path goes horizontal on thick platforms that lead to a set of falling platforms and back to the beginning of the stage on the ship.

Music[]

Italicized tracks are returning from a past game while bolded tracks must be unlocked.

Melee[]

  • Rainbow Cruise

Brawl[]

  • Rainbow Cruise (Melee)
  • Princess Peach's Castle (Melee)

Origin[]

The stage is based on the course, Rainbow Ride, from Super Mario 64 and its remake.

Trivia[]

  • This stage is also unique in which there are screen corner frames around the main battle area, following the camera (which, in any other stage, would possibly be the point where the characters get magnified - though they can still be magnified here). Fighters can stand out of these boundaries without any consequences, though.
  • Similarly, during the first little bit of the boat ride, it is possible to jump out of sight, onto a platform above the boat, avoiding the fights below. The only drawback is taking damage being outside the screen.
  • In Melee, a character was able to jump through the bottom of the donut lifts, but not drop through. In Brawl, characters can no longer pass through the donut lifts in any way.
