Chronosteel is a very strong substance in the world of Ninjago, with a raw incarnation of Amber allowing it to absorb and strip Elemental Power from Elemental Masters. It was used by Chen combined with Blue Crystal to make the Staff of Elements, used by Ray and Maya to forge the four Time Blades, allowing for Wu and Garmadon to strip Krux and Acronix's powers over Time, and used by Sora to create three different mechs with her Technology.
History[]
Background[]
Chronosteel was created by the Original Master of Amber to absorb the Elemental Powers of the original Elemental Masters.[1]
Battle for All of Time[]
After the Serpentine War, Ray and Maya created the Time Blades out of Chronosteel in order to strip the traitorous Elemental Masters of Time, Acronix and Krux, of their powers. The plan succeeded and the blades were scattered into the future.
Tournament of Elements[]
Prior to the ninja's arrival on Chen's Island, Chen made a staff out of Chronosteel and a Blue Crystal; the latter allowed Chen's Chronosteel staff to absorb more than one element at a time. Chen attempt to use the stolen powers for a spell. Although Kai manage to destroy the staff, Chen used his daughter Skylor to complete the spell.
The Hands of Time[]
After the Time Twins reunite, they sent their Vermillion army to hunt for the Time Blades. The Ninja manage to delay the Time Twins plans but they used the blades to power the Iron Doom. In the end, the Ninja recovered one blade while the other three were lost in time with the Iron Doom.
The Elemental Mechs[]
Learning of Chronosteel being brought to Kreel's Junkyard, Kai, Cole, Arin, and Sora attempt to prevent Kreel from selling it before Lobbo gets infected by a data artifact and mutates. Sora immediately used some to create three mechs that can swap pieces with each other.
Dragons Rising, Season 2[]
The Elemental Mechs were used by the Ninja. Sora and Kai used theirs to fight off the Wolf Clan while Cole used his to protect Bonzle.
Abilities[]
- Power Absorption - On its own, Chronosteel has the power to drain the power of an Elemental Master, rendering the Master a normal person. It is very powerful when combined with a Blue Crystal, as this allows it to absorb multiple Elements at once. However, if the Chronosteel and Blue Crystal are destroyed, any Elements stolen by them will return to their original Masters.[2]
- Elemental Infusion - Chronsteel can infuse an object with the Elemental power.
- Elemental Channeling - Chronosteel can channel elemental power for unique purposes.
Notable Uses[]
- Staff of Elements
- Time Blades
- Whirlwand
- Elemental Earth Mech
- Elemental Fire Mech
- Elemental Tech Mech

Trivia[]
- The prefix "Chrono-" means time, indicating the use of Chronosteel was to take Acronix and Krux's Time powers, although in the show they stated that Chronosteel could be used to rid any elemental master of their power.
- Chronosteel (in the Time Blades) and Blue Crystal (in the Staff of Elements) appear to hold elemental power differently. Elemental powers are more distinct orbs inside the Blue Crystal, while the elemental energy appears to be evenly dispersed throughout Chronosteel.
- In the original ending concept for The Hands of Time, the twins were going to end up 40 years in the future in "Kryptarium Prison 2.0" which would have had stealth-cloaked Chronosteel walls.[3]
- When asked if Chronosteel can rust throughout time, Tommy Andreasen replied, 'I don't care and have never thought about it. Probably never will.'[4]
