Gaku Yashiro (In Japanese: 八代 学, Yashiro Gaku) is the main antagonist of the anime series ERASED. A respected teacher and later politician, Gaku Yashiro is also a serial killer who mainly targets children. He is the archenemy of Satoru Fujinuma, the main protagonist.

He was voiced by Mitsuru Miyamoto (who also voiced Dogranio Yaboon in Kaitou Sentai Lupinranger VS Keisatsu Sentai Patranger) in Japanese, and David W. Collins in English.

His Evil Ranking[]

What Makes Him Close to Being Pure Evil?[]

In General[]

  • Although he felt a sense of loss about the death of Spice, it was likely because he could not entertain himself anymore.
  • Given that his backstory in the manga, coupled with having an abusive brother who forced him to be an accomplice, was omitted in the anime, nothing suggests Yashiro has a reason to be a serial killer other than sadism.

Original timeline[]

  • He committed numerous kidnappings and murders of innocent children offscreen (which has an onscreen effect).
  • Despite knowing the horrible abuse Kayo went through, he chose not to help and murdered the already traumatized girl in cold blood.
  • One of his victims was a feminine boy who attended his school that he murdered purely to make it look like the serial killer (who only targeted girls) wasn't familiar with the students so he could hide any trace that he knew the victims.
  • Like in the original Manga, he killed Satoru's mother, Sachiko and proceeded to frame Satoru for her death.
  • He manipulated most of the people against Satoru to take attention away from himself.
  • He attempted to kill Airi Katagiri by burning down her home, which was a crime that was also framed on Satoru along with the death of his mother.

New timeline[]

  • He tried to kill Satoru directly by trapping him and drowning him in his car, leaving Satoru in a 15 year coma.
  • He tried to kill Kumi, a defenseless child who is suffering from terminal cancer by poisoning her IV bag.

What Prevents Him from Being Pure Evil?[]

  • He suffers from offscreen villainy and Fridge Horror as unlike in the Manga adaptation, his darker and more disturbing crimes were never portrayed onscreen (i.e. assisting and watching his brother's crimes of raping minors with pleasure, killing his own brother and making it seem like a suicide, killing his fiancé and making it look like a suicide, his intentions of being a teacher to murder students, etc.). His kidnappings are also not shown in graphic detail like they are in the Manga and him murdering a politician and stealing his identity is also completely offscreen and is never mentioned in the anime. However, his kidnapping of kids does have some onscreen weight, making this a somewhat minor prevention.

Trivia[]

  • He is one of the two Near Pure Evils in Erased (Anime), along with Akemi Hinazuki.
  • It's unknown if his live-action versions will be Near Pure Evil or not.
