His Evil Ranking[]
What Makes Him Close to Being Pure Evil?[]
- He was originally kicked out by the well-intentioned Leo Kane, the leader of the Sect, after molesting the girls.
- After usurping Leo Kane by threatening to shoot him, he became known for hosting a cult where he regularly sexually abused children.
- Committed statutory rape with 3 teenagers before the story, and later did the same thing with Jessica Evanson, who devolved Stockholm Syndrome and committed a murder suicide for revenge for the FBI killing Cyrus.
- When Spencer Reid and Emily Prentiss came to the investigation of a sexual connection with another teenager, he holds them hostage and got into a shootout with SWAT.
- When Emily Prentiss confessed to being the undercover agent, he sadistically slapped, kicked, punched, and threw her against the wall.
- Tried to beat Spencer Reid to death but was shot by a FBI member in time.
- In a final act, he attempted to blow up the compound and kill every police member on scene and his followers (which included kids and infants)
- Jessica Evanson, his teenage wife, in a fit of rage, picks up the detonator and blows up the compound, the result killing dozens of the remaining cultists and several swat agents, but, if Emily Prentiss didn't evacuate most of the followers through the tunnels, he would have killed several children and even an infant.
- While one could argue that the followers which were evacuated, he didn't attempt, making him fail the heinous standard for less victims and become a villainous benchmark, it is shown with him planting dynamite in the tunnels that he was fully willing to kill the escapees.
- Despite being born in a cult, which would mess up his morality and give him a Freudian Excuse, he commits his crime of sexual abuse, abuse, and murder on his volition.
- Weeks to months later after the death of Cyrus, a man changes his name to Benjamin David Merva, to honor Cyrus and starts his own cult “The Believers.” For religious grandeur, they start committing serial killing and attempt to claim 300, they kill 299 by ripping out their thyroid bones and Merva strangles them to death. In season 13, they attempt to claim their 300rd victim, Spencer Reid, due to being undercover in a BAU raid which killed their leader. David eventually goes to prison, but not before Cyrus’s former wife, Mary Meadows, breaks Benjamin out of jail and restarts their massacre.
What Prevents Him From Being Pure Evil?[]
- Despite his crimes, he fails the heinous standard to one of his former followers, Benjamin David Merva, another cult leader who committed serial killing by strangulating, claiming at least 299 victims, but as Benjamin was fully planning to bomb all of his followers and swat members, he still manages to stand out from the other cult leaders in the show.
