Mixed Up Special, publicized as Mixels Mixed-Up Special is a special from the first season of Mixels that aired on August 31, 2014. It is a half-hour compilation of previously-aired short-form episodes from the season as well as the premiere of the series' 21st and 22nd episodes, Epic Comedy Adventure and Murp Romp (the season finale), respectively.
Synopsis[]
iTunes[]
Get ready for more Mixels madness featuring Mixels you already know and 9 brand new Mixels in two new shorts![2]
Cartoon Network[]
Get ready for more Mixel mayhem in a half-hour Mixels special event! Check out the pointy, prickly Spikels, the outrageously gross Glorp Corp and the magical, wondrous Wiztastics as they meet the other Mixels and go on crazy new adventures.[3]
Production Information[]
- This special takes after the format and transitions created for Mixels Special, a compilation of 17 shorts from the first season; however, that special did not broadcast in the United States, so this is considered by many fans to be the first half-hour special, and served as the formal reveal for most of the voice cast (as the shorts did not air with credits in English).
- A videocassette containing this special is archived in the Library of Congress catalog.[1]
- In the data provided to the catalog, it is given the production code of 300. However, previous information used by TV providers listed it as 200 instead.[2]
- When the Mixels franchise was first announced, it was stated that the length of the series could be extended for longer storylines, if and when needed;[4] this being an example.
- This special features "paint-on" captioning, where the text in the closed captioning gradually appears over the course of the line. They additionally scroll up, a feature unique to "roll-up" captioning, which would be used again in Mixel Moon Madness. Other episodes and specials use the more standardized "pop-on" captioning format instead.
- This format is retained on Google Play; on Amazon, it is converted automatically so that only one line is on screen at a time.
- A short clip of Murp Romp was released prior to the special's airing, in anticipation of its release.[5] A trailer was also released on TV and on Cartoon Network's blog.[6]
Broadcast Information[]
- This special includes, in the following order listed:
- Epic Comedy Adventure (highlight)
- Changing a Light Bulb (TV debut)
- Hot Lava Shower
- Mailman
- Wrong Colors
- Another Nixel
- Elevator
- Nixel "Mix Over"
- Murp Romp (highlight)
- Both of the new minisodes are 5-6 minutes in length.
- This is the first episode to air and premiere at a specific time (6:00-6:30 PM Eastern/Pacific, 5:00-5:30 PM Central) instead of during a commercial break and/or in between shows.
- This episode first aired as part of the "Labor Day Weekend Clarence and Friends Sleepover" event.
- This episode's airing revealed the Check It 3.0 (the branding used at the time by Cartoon Network) up next bumper for Mixels. Unlike most shows on the network, the spinning cube in the bumper simply contained a still image of Flain rather than an animation.[7]
- In England, however, the show DID get an animated next ident featuring a Nixel blowing a raspberry [8]
- Due to the lack of a special dedicated to Series 5, this special and Mixel Moon Madness re-aired in Japan in June 13th and 25th, 2015, this was also done a few days earlier in England, on June 6th and 7th of the same year.[9][10]

Trivia[]
- The bumper in-between "Nixel Mix-Over" and "Murp Romp" includes a bunch of the Mixels logo falling on top of each other. This bumper originated from the beginning of some of the stop-motion videos from LEGO.
- On September 3, 2014, both Epic Comedy Adventure and Murp Romp became available to watch from the website.[20][21] They are unavailable on Cartoon Network's website, but were retained on YouTube by them and LEGO until 2019.
- Strangely, in the Brazilian Portuguese version, most of the voices in the intro are dubbed, while the Series 3 tribes aren't.
Broadcast[]
This episode aired on August 31, 2014 directly following the Cartoon Network premiere of Alex Rider: Operation Stormbreaker. It is unknown how many viewers this episode garnered.
Errors[]
- During the end credits, Flurr's name is misspelled as "Flur", and Kraw is absent.
- In the closed captioning:
- Flurr's name is misspelled as "Flur," similarly to the credits.
- Towards the end of Hot Lava Shower, Vulk's lines are misattributed to Volectro.
- In Mailman, Shuff's line, "Guys, I have rock and solid plan!" is misheard as "Guys, I have rockin' solid plan."
- In Murp Romp, when the Spikels and Glorp Corp spot the Scorpi & Glurt Murp, Glurt's name is misspelled as "Glort."
