Biography and legacy[]
By the time of his career serving President Lincoln, Grant was known as a drinker of whiskey. A replicant of Lincoln that was created by the Excalbians asked Captain James T. Kirk if he drank whiskey, and complimented him by saying that Kirk's command of tactics was comparable to fellow whiskey drinker Grant. (TOS episode: "The Savage Curtain")
As president, Grant was alerted by Aaron Stemple to the existence of alien species with nefarious plans. He was seen by history as responsible for repelling the attempted Karsid Empire take over of Earth. The nature of the Karsid infiltration was not widely known until it was communicated to Federation historians after being observed by Spock after an incidence of time travel. (TOS novel: Ishmael)
