Markonia sector

Map of the Markonia sector.

The Markonia sector was one of three sectors of the Tekara sector block in the Delta Quadrant. (STO mission: "Delta Quadrant")

Naming[]

The Markonia sector was named for the Markonian species, who were neutral traders and brokers among the starfaring people of the region, and thus gained their trust. (VOY - Distant Shores novella: Brief Candle) The Markonians operated starbases in the region, including the so-called Markonian outpost. (VOY episode: "Survival Instinct")

Size and location[]

The Markonia sector was situated between the Devore sector to the north and the Yontasa sector to the south, with all three making up the Tekara sector block. (STO mission: "Delta Quadrant"})

The Markonia sector was more than 800 light-years long, or possibly larger than 20,000. The sector was between fifty and sixty thousand light-years away from Sol. (ST reference: Star Charts)

History[]

The Vaadwaur utilized the subspace corridors left behind by the Manraloth 250 million years ago, calling the network underspace. The Vaadwaur travelled across the Delta Quadrant and antagonized other species in the process. An alliance including the native Turei destroyed the Vaadwaur empire and forced the Vaadwaur into hibernation in 1484. The Turei subsequently took control of underspace. (TNG - The Lost Era novel: The Buried Age, VOY episode: "Dragon's Teeth")

At some point before the 2370s, the Markonians lost their homeworld to a natural calamity and became a nomadic starfaring people as a result. (VOY - Distant Shores novella: Brief Candle)

In 2376, the lost Federation Intrepid-class starship USS Voyager traversed the Markonia sector on its journey to the Federation. The crew made contact with the Hierarchy, Shivolians, Markonians, Turei and awakened the Vaadwaur from hibernation. (VOY episodes: "Tinker, Tenor, Doctor, Spy", "Survival Instinct", "Dragon's Teeth")

In the year 2409, the Gaul led the Vaadwaur Supremacy in its attempted conquest of the Delta Quadrant. The Supremacy captured most of the Markonia and Yontasa sectors. The Voth allied with Turei to defend them. (STO - Delta Quadrant} mission: "Revelations")

In 2410, the Alpha Quadrant Alliance responded to the Vaadwaur threat and fought back the Supremacy, gathering Gedrin's opponents in the Delta Alliance. (STO mission: "Delta Quadrant"})
