"Hear him well, messenger. The world belongs to a host of the divine, not some misguided dictator."
Hayao Koshimizu is a character in Shin Megami Tensei V.
Appearances[]
- Shin Megami Tensei V / Vengeance: Major Character
Design[]
Koshimizu wears an Imperial Seal of Japan pin on the left lapel of his suit jacket, much like real Japanese prime ministers. The pin's 16-petaled chrysanthemum on a red background is a symbol of the prime minister's role in the Japanese Diet, though Koshimizu's pin only has 6 petals.
Koshimizu also lacks the blue ribbon pin of modern day prime ministers Shinzo Abe and Yoshihide Suga wear, a reminder to "bring back the Japanese people who were abducted by North Korea in the 1970s and 80s."[1]
Hayao also bears a near-perfect resemblance to Aogami. This is not coincidental, as Tsukuyomi and Susano-o are brothers in Japanese mythology.
Profile[]
Shin Megami Tensei V[]
Koshimizu is the prime minister of Japan and the head of Bethel's Japan branch. He is calm, collected and strategic. Staff commend him for his talents and ability to handle such heavy workflow, while the public questions why there's no background on him. That is because he's actually Tsukuyomi, but he keeps his identity as an Amatsukami secret. This also applies to his brother Aogami, who's actually Susano-o.
He offers the protagonist and Ichiro Dazai a chance to join Bethel once they're retrieved from Da'at, giving the latter a Demon Summoning Program, helping him fight demons.
Once Bethel defeats the forces of chaos in Chiyoda with the protagonist's help, with the world of Tokyo fading, he discloses the truth to the three students of Jouin, he announces that he will no longer cooperate with the other branches of the group, instead deciding to take the throne for himself in order to give Tokyo back to the Japanese gods. However, before he officially does this, he joins the Bethel Summit with Abdiel alongside the boys, Khonsu, Zeus, Vasuki and Odin. Upon observing Abdiel's defeat at the hands of the Nahobino protagonist alongside the other gods, who tried to slay him upon trying to enforce God's laws which his existence violated, he denounces the Creator as a "despotic tyrant" before leaving in disappointment like the other summit participants.
Once back to Bethel Japan HQ, he explains the war of the gods, the Empyrean, the Throne and the nature of the Nahobino to the boys and subsequently recruits Yuzuru Atsuta to his cause and plans to use him as a Nahobino vessel so that he may take the throne.
If the protagonist sides with his ideology, he and Yuzuru will be killed by Abdiel, with them being the first boss of their path, and will later confront Nuwa. If they don't side with them, they will take the spot of the side they support as a boss.
Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance[]
His role in the Canon of Vengence is identical to that of the original Canon of Creation story until after Shinagawa. Following the inhabitants of the Fairy Village being turned into salt, he sends the protagonist, Tao, and Yoko to Shinjuku to investigate, but calls them back after Miyazu Atsuta is kidnapped by Khonsu. He later sent them back out to Shinjuku in order to confront the culprit of the salt pillar incident. While they are gone, Koshimizu explains his true identity as Tsukuyomi to Yuzuru and the two agree to merge into a Nahobino.
Koshimizu and Yuzuru then go to Shinjuku separately from the protagonist to deal with the Demon King, but midway they saw Tiamat awaken and destroy a large portion of Tokyo in horror. Unfortunately after the forces of Bethel defeat the Demon King, Abdiel declares all Nahobino to be wiped out to maintain God's order with Dazai on his side. They easily defeat them off-screen and meet Yuzuru. Shortly after this, Koshimizu is approached by the protagonist, who has lost Aogami to the Qadištu, who used his essence to finally resurrect Tiamat. Koshimizu takes him back to Bethel and explains his identity as a proto-fiend. The two then agree to merge into a Nahobino in order to stop Tiamat.
After the battle against the Yoko or Mastema-controlled Tiamat, the serpent goddess regenerates and fires one Annihilation Ray that fatally injured Koshimizu and Tao/Yoko. Koshimizu will sacrifice himself to fully revitalize Tao/Yoko and the protagonist will regain his Aogami form, killing off Tiamat in a single blade as Yoko/Mastema watches in disbelief.
