"Hee hee hee... Stupid Maverick Hunters! You will all feel the true Maverick power... right before you die!"
—Sigma Head, Mega Man X5

Sigma Head (シグマヘッド Shiguma Heddo) is the boss from the Opening Stage in Mega Man X5. He wounds the character opposite to the one the player chooses (destroying X's Fourth Armor if they chose Zero, or destroying Zero's Z-Buster if they chose X) and then hides inside a statue under construction.

History[]

A few months after the Great Repliforce War, Sigma hatches a new plot to awaken Zero to his evil nature by spreading the Sigma Virus across the planet. To achieve this, he has the bounty hunter Dynamo spread a virus in the Eurasia colony and send it on a collision course with Earth. Meanwhile, Sigma baits the Maverick Hunters at a city in northern Brazil in the form of a giant head.[1]

Although X and Zero manage to defeat Sigma in this form and cause it to explode, they did not realize until it was too late that Sigma lost to them on purpose. The explosion caused by his defeat causes the virus to spread from South America all over the Earth to different continents, resulting in the majority of Hunters becoming Mavericks themselves. Even seaside Reploids such as Tidal Whale were infected by the virus.

Strategy[]

In this giant head form, Sigma attacks with projectiles from his eyes and mouth, teleporting to the right side of the arena after each move. He can only be damaged when he opens his mouth to expose the cannon barrel within. After losing half of his energy, he fires a large purple energy beam from his mouth.

Shironeko Project[]

Sikuma (西枯瑪, also romanized as "Siguma" in the event) is the final boss from the Rockman X DiVE collaboration event in the Taiwanese version of Shironeko Project. When the Sigma Virus escaped from the Deep Log to the world of Shironeko Project, it appeared in the Brown Bear Academy and mutated into Sikuma (a pun with kuma, bear in Japanese) and started infecting the world. It was stopped by the autonomous Hunter Programs sent by RiCO and the Player.

Sikuma has a form similar to the Sigma Head, appearing with small copies (possibly based on the Sigma Virus enemies from Rockman X5) assisting him. Sikuma starts with four small heads that form a barrier, preventing the party from approaching him. After breaking the four miniatures, the barrier disappears and Sikuma summons more miniatures to assist him, and will occasionally summon some of the robotic enemies from Shironeko Project. Both the large and small heads attack with lasers and energy spheres. Defeated miniatures are replaced by new ones after some time.

During the event Sikuma also appeared as a co-op boss with three difficulties, the first being similar to the story event, the second having two large Sikuma heads (the second appearing after breaking the barrier) that must be defeated, and the third having one head followed by three heads. In the third difficulty, players could not take long to defeat the set of three large heads as, like the small ones, after some time a new head will replace the defeated one.

Other media[]

The Sigma Head appears in the Rockman X5 manhua serving the same role as in the game, only fighting both X and Zero.

Trivia[]

  • Sigma Head's boss theme is the same one that is used during the first phase of the Sigma boss fight in the game. The theme was also heard in the cutscene immediately after the battle, revealing that his defeat resulted in a global spread of the Sigma Virus.
