Sword (ソード Sōdo) is a type of Battle Chip that appeared in all games from the Mega Man Battle Network series, and are classified as an element in some games from the series. When used by an Operator, Sword Battle Chips enable the operator's NetNavi to transform their arm into an energy sword and use it as a weapon. Swords usually have high attack power but low range.
There are also some NetNavis that are capable of using swords without the use of any sword chips, such as ProtoMan and Colonel. In Mega Man Battle Network 4 and 5, Sword-type Battle Chips can be sacrificed to use Proto Soul.
They also appeared with a few differences as Sword Battle Cards in the Mega Man Star Force series.

It has high damage power, but only works on enemies that intrude on the player's area. It is activated by holding down on the A button. While in use, whenever an enemy goes over to the user's area, they automatically receive damage, regardless of their position, until the user is hit with an attack or releases the A button. The amount of damage varies depending on the game. It is not dropped by any viruses and is rare, but can be bought in some games. This is particularly effective for enemies like ProtoMan, who regularly steps into the player's area to perform Wide Sword, and in multiplayer battles, effective against Proto Soul users.

Program Advances[]
B/S-Sword[]
Beta Sword and Sigma Sword are a duo of Program Advances in the first Mega Man Battle Network game. B-Sword is formed by combining Sword, WideSword, and LongSword S, and gives MegaMan use of five swords that are each randomly picked among the three components. S-Sword is an upgraded version, formed from five chips of these three types, the ratios not mattering as long as they're in the order shown. It grants the use of nine swords, three of each kind in the same order.
Life Sword[]
Life Sword, called Dream Sword (ドリームソード) in Japan, is the successor to B-Sword introduced in Mega Man Battle Network 2 and is based on the Life Virus’ Sword attack, lasting for the rest of the series. It is still formed from Sword, WideSword, and LongSword in that order, but now they share several valid codes to form the Advance with, typically among the E, L, S, and Y codes. Starting in Mega Man Battle Network 4, it can also be formed using Sword, WideBlade, and LongBlade, the latter two being upgraded forms of WideSword and LongSword respectively. LifeSword functions as a single giant sword, hitting a 2-column, 3-row wide area centered on the panel in front of MegaMan for 400 damage.
In BN2 and Mega Man Network Transmission, it is actually a series, with the original being called LifeSrd1. LifeSrd2 does 500 damage and is formed with FireSword, AquaSword, and ElecSword (in the H, N, or R codes in BN2). LifeSrd3 does 600 damage and is formed with FireBlade, AquaBlade, and ElecBlade (in the F or R codes in BN2).
2x/Deux Hero[]
2xHero ( ダブルヒーロー Double Hero), DublHero in Battle Network 6, is focused on ProtoMan and is always built using Sword chips alongside the ProtoMan chip, though the exact ones are almost never the same between games. It exists in the first three Mega Man Battle Network games, Mega Man Battle Network 6, and in Mega Man Network Transmission.
Mega Man Battle Network 3 has a weaker version called Deux Hero (ダプルヒーロー Douple Hero) formed with one less chip than Double Hero, it's meant to be a dupe on those who try the same PA combo from the previous game. Hence why the names are similar in text for both languages. In 3, the true 2xHero is created with one more chip, a 4 chip PA.
In all games, it takes the form of MegaMan and ProtoMan teaming up to blast the enemy field with buster shots and ranged WideSwords after freezing time and charging up power. In the original game, this was a single hit of 400 damage, but starting in BN2, it hits multiple times for lesser damage. The BN2 incarnation and DeuxHero are 8 rounds of 70 damage; BN3 and BN6 are 10 rounds of 70/60 damage.
The combinations to form 2x/DeuxHero are as follows:
Game | PA Name | Chip 1 | Chip 2 | Chip 3 | Chip 4 | ||||
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
MMBN | 2xHero | FighterSword | B | KnightSword | B | HeroSword | B | ProtoMan ProtoMan 2 ProtoMan 3 |

In Rockman.EXE Operate Shooting Star, two stronger variants of DoubleHero are added based on Shooting Star Rockman. One, called Double Hero 2 (ダブルヒーロー2), is a team-up of S.S. Rockman and Burai that does 450 damage. It is made using the same chips as the original, but with Blues replaced with Burai's chip. The second, called Double Rockman (ダブルロックマン), features Rockman.EXE, S.S. Rockman and Warrock, does 500 damage, and is made with Barrier *, FighterSword S, BusterSword S, and SSRockman S.
Evil Cut[]
Evil Cut is a Program Advance in Mega Man Battle Network 3 formed with StepSword, HeroSword, and StepCross in P code. MegaMan will step forward two squares and perform each of the three chip attacks in order, for 150 damage each.
