History

Origin in Pre-Cataclysmic Age[]

The Zhemri were a pre-Cataclysmic people,[1] non-Valusian civilized nations,[2][3] possibly Grondarian in origin.[3][4]

Great Caraclysm[]

After the Great Cataclysm, the Zhemri were a remnant of the former civilized nations,[2][3] first evident about 17,500 BC (500 years after the Cataclysm).[5] They dwelt in the low mountains of the southeast of the new world-continent.[2][3]

The Zhemri intermingled with various unknown peoples.[3] Candidates for those people include:

  • After the Lemurian slaves successfully revolted in the Far East circa 16,500 BC, some of the "East-folk" migrated westwards. It was believed that they might have stimulated Zhemri revival by that hypothetical "northern branch" of the East-folk migration.[1][6] Other accounts mentions it was the Lemurians who migrated westwards after overthrowing the East-folk.[7]
  • After Dagonia was destroyed by the Yuetshi around the same time, refugees fled to mingle with the Zhemri, jumpstarting Zhemri revival.[6]

The Zhemri, now a hybrid race, prospered and multiplied, and eventually founded Zamora around the time the Aesir overthrew Hyperborea the Elder,[5][3] setting their kingdom at about 500 miles east of Acheron.[1]

Legacy[]

For the remainder of the Zhemri's history after the foundation of their kingdom, please consult Zamora.
By the Age of Conan, a tribe of Kushites banished by Mbundi Bowgli lived in a village in Zamora, set around a temple built and abandoned by the Zhemri, where was entombed the demon Uggrahk the Doom-God.[8]

Notes

Trivia

  • Similarly to the Zhemri , the Temple of the Bloodstained God, set in Eastern Zamora, was believed to be Grondarian in origin.
  • Eevin, lover of the Brythunian captain Dunlang, is told to belong to a race who was "old when this land was young" (it is unclear whether "this land" designates Brythunia or Hyboria). While said race remains unnamed, a credible candidate would be the Zhemri, given that Brythunia was the neighbor of Zamora.
