During the American Civil War, Union Army officials Colonel Fury and Doctor Xavier recruited three African-Americans to enforce their ranks: the armored-soldier James Rhodes, and the mutants Ororo Munroe and Scott Summers to which they explained their special gifts, and trained them into an elite combat team.

The three black super-soldiers strikes surprised the over-confident Confederates leaders, defeating their army and killing thousands of them, ending the American Civil War in merely two weeks.

Despite their efforts and victory, Corporal Scott Summers and his fellows were feared by their compatriots, because of their battle facts. When Summers realized this feelings of his fellow soldiers for his kind, he realized the violence of his acts.^[1]
