The Un-Beyond is the true home of the Kings in Black (a.k.a. Onyx Kings) and heart of the Symbiote Hive-Mind. It is the antithesis of the Beyond, home to the Beyonders (a.k.a. Ivory Kings, Kings in White, etc.).[2]
Similar to the Beyonders, Kings in Black are tasked by the Celestials to monitor, manage, and maintain the Multiverse. The Un-Beyond is where they do the work and where they can see all.[2]
History
At the dawn of the Seventh Cosmos, Knull was appointed the King in Black by the Celestials, but he abandoned his duties so that the universe could end early and return to nothingness. However, Knull was always meant to lose and was replaced by the "true" King in Black of the current reality, Eddie Brock.[2]
Unmoored in time following the death of his physical body, Eddie's path as the King in Black was nonlinear and full of forks, creating numerous divergent offshoots that adopted alternate personas, such as Finnegan, Bedlam, Wilde, Tyro, and Meridius. No matter what happened, however, these offshoots were destined to converge as a singular entity calling himself the Eventuality. This final version of Eddie had spent his lifetime, purportedly even longer than the cosmos would last, maintaining the Multiverse and then went to the Un-Beyond to supervise his past selves, ensuring none became like Knull.[2]
After Eddie (as Bedlam) was slain in Limbo, he fell into the Un-Beyond where he met the Eventuality, who informed him of his purpose and his destiny.[2] A future version of him, Tyro, accidentally stumbled into the Un-Beyond, which led him down the path into becoming Meridius.[5] When Dylan Brock "died," he also fell into the Un-Beyond and met the Eventuality,[6] who showed him a vision of Eddie in the Ninth Cosmos.[7]Residents

Trivia
- The Qlippoth is the inverse of the Sefirot. In Al Ewing's Defenders: Beyond series, he associated the Beyond with one of the Sefirot, Yesod, which implies the Un-Beyond is associated with the Qlippah Gamaliel.
- This is not the first time Al Ewing referenced the Qlippoth. In Immortal Hulk #10–11, he associated the Below-Place with Thaumiel, the opposite of Keter.
