Mephisto worked with Thanos until Silver Surfer stole the Infinity Gauntlet back from him. Mephisto fled back to his realm and Surfer eventually followed, wanting to remake Mephisto into a more productive being. Mephisto declined and walked away from him, which angered the Surfer who blasted him from behind. Mephisto retaliated but the Surfer was unaffected and vaporized Mephisto.[1]
