History
Origin[]
The alien species known as the Kree developed and built the Sentries to watch over their military bases and supply depots throughout all the Kree Empire and beyond.[1][2]
Some 80,000 years ago, in Kree year 1220, Kree scientist Bronek developed the prototype Sentry and the Supreme Council of the Kree Empire began to mass-build Sentries for military purposes. Hundreds of thousands of Sentries were built, although only a few thousands are currently active.[3]
Various models and variates of Sentries would be produced in the following years which included the Gen-Kol pattern and Pama-class.[4][5]
On Earth[]
The Kree brought many Sentries on Earth, which included one Sentries 459 and 213,[6] as they experimented on early Humans to create the Inhumans. Following the experimentations, Sentry 459 was reactivated to see the progress, and encountered the Inhumans in the newly formed Attilan. It told them of their origins and before departing it stated that the next time they met it would be either as allies or enemies.[7]
In 226 BC, a giant Kree Sentry was sent to attack human settlements in Rhodes, Greece. It battled the Colossus of Rhodes, piloted by Archimedes of the Brotherhood of the Shield, and although at first it had the upper hand, Archimedes was able to defeat it by destroying its core.[8]
As NASA was about to launch a mission to the Moon, the Kree activated Sentry 9168 to sabotage the mission out of fear of humanity reaching space threatening the Empire. The Sentry unleashed the Nameless Mass from beneath Moon's surface, but its plan to stop the Moon Landing was thwarted by the Fantastic Four.[9]
Following the Kree's devastation in the aftermath of the Kree-Shi'ar War, Kree Admiral Galen-Kor gathered an armada of Sentries which hoped to use to destroy the Avengers for their role in the war. Thankfully, with the help of Deathcry, the heroes were able to defeat the Sentries.[10]
Annihilation: Conquest[]
After the conclusion of the Annihilation War, the Kree attempted to rebuild their defenses and upgrade their war-net with the aid of the Galadorian Spaceknights. Unfortunately, the Phalanx had assimilated the Spaceknights and through them took possession of several Sentries. The Phalanx merged the Sentries to form a Babel Spire which secluded Kree space from the rest of the universe, leaving the Kree to be completely overtaken by the invaders.[11]
Ronan and his companions traveled to Kree-Lar which at the time was still overtaken by the Annihilation Wave. He managed to take down Ravenous and gained access to the Kree Imperial Palace where around 15,000 Sentries resided in a secret chamber. The Sentries were immunized to the Phalanx's infection and soon were used to free the Kree from the invaders.[12]
Attack on Earth[]
When the Supreme Intelligence was revived, it sent numerous Sentries to attack Earth. They battled the Thing who struggled fighting them, but when he saw the Human Torch flying in the sky alive and well, he became encouraged enough to destroy the Sentries.[13]
Yon-Rogg returned as Magnitron and activated eleven dormant Sentries from around the Earth, intending to use them to terraform the planet into a new Hala after the original one was destroyed. Luckily, Captain Marvel and her allies managed to thwart his plans.[2]
Empyre[]
To everyone's surprise, the Kree and the Skrulls united to form a powerful amalgamated empire, the Alliance. Threatened by the Cotati uprising, the Alliance created a new type Sentry with Kree technology which was piloted by a Skrull mutation. This Sentry was sent to attack the Cotati on the Blue Area of the Moon, but was destroyed by the Avengers under the belief that it was hostile.[14]
In the city of K'in-Al on the planet of Mar-Da'en, after Wastrel destroyed it as part of his revenge on the Kree, he began accumulating several pieces of Kree technology, including a Sentry, a Mandroid and a Supremor body. Captain Marvel, now a member of the Accuser Corps, having deduced that Wastrel was responsible for the city's destruction, she and her companions went to confront him. He counter-attacked by dispatching his reprogrammed robots, but were all taken down.[15]
Alternate Reality Versions[]
Earth-982[]
A Sentry was aboard a Kree ship which was shot down by a defense satellite. The Sentry was separated from the ship and crashed into two different parts of the Washington National Forest. It was found by Thunderstrike and Mainframe who it easily defeated, but was then thrown accidentally to the direction of the ship by J2. This caused Dr. Bill Foster who was analyzing the ship to get caught under a heavy door, forcing his son John Foster to plug himself to the ship. Gaining new powers and knowledge from the ship, John lured the Sentry inside the ship and tipped it over a cliff before setting off its self-destruction which destroyed the Sentry.[16]
Ultimate Universe (Earth-1610)[]
The Killforms appeared to be this universe's version of the Kree Sentries.[17]
Earth-8096[]
The Kree Empire dispatched Sentry 459, equipped with a Nega-Bomb, to Earth where it would asses humanity. Captain Mahr Vehl, wanting to protect Earth attempted to cloak the planet from the Kree, only for the Sentry to destroy his device. The Sentry came to deem humanity a threat to the Empire and set the bomb to detonate. Thankfully, the Avengers defeated it and sent the bomb to Earth Orbit.[18]
In their attempt to destroy Earth, the Kree sent a smaller Sentry to enter a S.W.O.R.D. shuttle. It battled Black Panther who with the help of the crew managed to destroy it. Later on, when the Avengers went to confront the Supreme Intelligence, Thor stayed behind to battle several other Sentries which he destroyed.[19]
Earth X (Earth-9997)[]
Earth-12041[]
During his confrontation with Captain Marvel and the Avengers, Galen-Kor deployed several Sentries, but were all shut down after the heroes destroyed the central control mechanism.[20]
Avengers in Galactic Storm (Earth-TRN561)[]
On Earth-TRN561, Sentries appear as allies to the enemy characters Galen-Kor and Shatterax during the story mode. In the Versus mode, if the player chooses a Kree character, she can select Sentry as an ally. When summoned, the Sentry overflies the arena, bombing it in the process; if someone tries to intercept the Sentry, that person is knocked down.[21]
Marvel's Avengers (Earth-38264)[]
A Kree Sentry which was a source of the Terrigen Mist was discovered by MODOK and used it to fight against the Avengers.[22]
Earth-71166[]
As Earth was the source of a disturbance that was felt throughout the universe, the Kree and the Shi'ar decided to attack the planet. The Kree brought numerous Sentries to help them in the battle against the heroes on an asteroid, but were all taken down.[23]
Earth-135263[]
The Sentries were spheroid machines sent by the Kree Empire to Earth. They approached the Human Torch, and mistaking them for attackers he destroyed the probes. This caused the Ronan the Accuser to abduct him and put him on trial for the crime committed against the Empire.[24]
Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy (Earth-TRN912)[]
The head of an enormous Kree Sentry is encountered by the Guardians of the Galaxy in the Quarantine Zone, filled with ship-eating parasites. Once the head was cleared of the parasites a message can be found inside the head written by Kree Roth-Denn, detailing how the Kree Empire was devastated during the Galactic War.[25]Powers and Abilities
Powers
- Superhuman Strength: Sentries possessed immense strength which they could further increase in dire situations.[1] Each were built to hold off an entire army on their own.[14]
- Auto-Repair: A Sentry can repair itself unless it is destroyed.[26][27]
- Superhuman Speed: The Sentries were equipped with jet boots that allowed them to dodge attack, though they could also redirect them to produce flames.[9]
- Communications: A Sentry can transmit and receive data from the Kree at lightspeed. As the Kree live in another galaxy, most of the communications are not urgent.[9]
- Force Field: Sentries could control atoms to imprison enemies and block them from attacking.[1][28]
Abilities
Sentries were often equipped with Beta-Guns that could raise small sunken islands, and Vibro-Screens that manipulated vibrations to hide certain areas from the human eye.[29]
The Kree Sentries were considered as having a threat level Alpha by S.W.O.R.D..[30]Miscellaneous
