In Journey Into Mystery #117 Kim Sak was depicted as a sister of a Vietnamese guerilla commander, but maintaining some of the characters' ties with the Vietnam War became problematic over time because of the Sliding Timescale. History of the Marvel Universe (Vol. 2) #2 introduced the Siancong War, a military conflict that serves as stand-in for the Vietnam War for the events that were affected by the Sliding Timescale, including Journey into Mystery #117.
